After old school, Todd Philips has come up with yet another winner – The Hangover. This is definitely one of the better comedies to come out this year and I can guarantee that you won\’t stop laughing till the end of the film. The main theme of the movie is about a planned bachelor party going haywire.

Just after watching 30 seconds of the movie people will hear you laughing out loud. This is such a good flick. The story is nothing original but it is simply told. Three friends travel to Las Vegas to celebrate the upcoming marriage of their friend with a planned bachelor party of their own. They have a whale of a time during the evening but the real fun starts the next morning. Phil (Bradley Cooper), a married school teacher, finds out in the morning that he, the dentist Stu and Alan (bride\’s brother) have lost the groom, Doug.

The whole story is told in reverse as the characters of the film try to put in the place the events of the previous night. This part of the film is has pace as they race against time to find the groom as the wedding hours is drawing near. In the process they gradually discover what really happened that fateful night. The Hangover is extremely funny as it does not follow the same success mantra as the other films in this genre.

The pace of the film, as told earlier, is very fast and the jokes are at the appropriate moment. One should see the look on their faces as the valet brings in a police car instead of the Mercedes. The police car was actually stolen by them the previous night.

The Hangover is a major success mainly because of the fact that the lead actors share an onscreen chemistry which is never seen before. Of the three friends Bradley Cooper is Phil, the married school teacher; Ed Helms (stu) is the dentist who is always terrified of his girlfriend and Zach Galifianakis plays Alan, the groom\’s future brother – in – law. These three gives some of the best moments in this hilarious film. Justin Bartha plays the groom who is missing in action. Heather Graham is the stripper whom Ed Helms married on that fateful night.

Todd Philips had earlier given us Old School and now this highly acclaimed R-rated comedy. This guy really deserves some special mention as it is only for him that we get to see such a superb comic movie.

The movie Baby Mama, released last year was both written and directed by Michael McCullers. Significant roles by Steve Martin, Sigourney Weaver and Greg Kinnear, among others, spice up the movie but it’s obvious that the movie’s Fey and Poehler’s vehicle. The unpredictable plot and the funny take on the situation keep the movie light and entertaining avoiding any serious or philosophical approaches and depictions.

Michael McCullers sensitive and expert direction makes the movie both funny and sentimental at the same time, far surpassing your expectations from such a movie. This doesn’t come across as well in through the trailer which is one piece of marketing that doesn’t do justice to the actual movie. While Baby Mama is not brilliant, it definitely qualifies as an above-average watch thanks primarily to the amazing chemistry between the main characters.

Mulan is bunglesome young girl who defends her homeland, China by cross dressing. The story is that Huns have attacked China and one member of the Chinese family must go to war to fight for his motherland. Mulan’s father decides to go to war to protect his family’s respect. But he is too old and death is imminent if he takes part in the battle. Sensing this Mulan, his daughter, cuts off her hair and sneaks out in the middle of the night to join the Chinese army. In order to protect his little daughter, her father prays to the ancestors to protect her in the journey and to provide her with some luck. The ancestors sent Mushu, a small dragon for her protection in the war.

When the war started Mulans’ inexperience comes to the forefront but she continues to fight valiantly in order to win the trust of her fellow soldiers. There is a big showdown with the head Hun in the end but you need to watch the film to know the outcome of his hard battle.

The film has some really nice voices going for but it fails to connect with the audiences. Eddie Murphy as Mushu is probably the only saving grace in the film. The character of Mulan sometimes gets overshadowed by some unnecessary sequences or characters which could have been dispensed with. Though Eddie Murphy does well in the voice of Mushu, one just feels that perhaps this character is the worst sidekick in a Disney animation film. It is a dismal film and is not worthy of a fair run at the box office.

There is very little scope to crib about in this movie. The only sore point is the songs which are not irritating but at the same time not heart warming too. The character of head Hun is surprisingly underutilized and should have been given more screen time. There are some scenes and dialogues which might be unsuitable for very young kids but will be gleefully accepted by the young adults and teenagers.

Overall Mulan is a satisfying film with a good balance between humor, supporting casts, sidekicks and a strong female lead character. One interesting trivia about this animation is that all the artwork for the movie has been done on traditional Chinese Lithographs and in pastel colors. There is one scene in he film which will be etched in the minds of the audience for a long time to come – Mulan is forced to bring an avalanche down on the advancing army and she is forced to ride the peak of the avalanche wave on a horse. Amongst the characters, though, Eddie Murphy only deserves special mention. The others are just ok.

He film has won rave reviews as it has been termed to be a reformist film. The gender equality issues have been cleverly dealt with in this animation. It has been a few weeks since I have written one of these. With the holidays and the year beginning to wind down, I felt the timeliness of this message could not be better.

Oh the Holidays… The crisp snap of the winter breeze, lights emerging from every corner imaginable; illuminating the evening skies like the sun just squeezed itself through the screen door. It’s a time for celebration, a time for reflection. For smiles, and long overdue embraces that have sat on shelves collecting the dust of neglect.

For too many people the world over, this holiday brings with it a new anticipation. The close of the year is upon us, the months passed have been marked with a collective anxiety of what is to come. Will it get better? Has the worst of it passed? What will I do next year?

We are all someone’s children. We all have a hometown, a first kiss, a first disappointment, a first job. But the reality is these things, while important in the shape of our being, have no bearing on where our lives may take us. What we desire in life, what we desire for our children, lies ahead and not behind us.

As we come into this new year, let’s embrace the promise of infinite possibility. Forget whatever hurdle or misstep may have plagued you this past year and focus on where you want to be.

The 57 Chevy Corvette almost didn’t make it to 1957 and nearly did a crash and burn a few years prior. Why did this auto, which has won the hearts of many, come close to meeting its demise?

Chevy first presented their two-seat Corvette or ‘Vette’ in 1953. It was the obsession and brainchild of the distinguished automobile designer Harley Earl. Mr. Earl had been creating magic for Chevy since the late 1920′s and finally managed to convince them to develop a two seater sports car, not unlike the MGs, Alfas and other European autos that were being introduced to the American market by returning GIs.

While the 1953 Chevrolet ‘Vette was hailed for its killer good looks and fabulous body, its engine performance was unquestionably unexciting, unadventurous and just plain bad. The Ford Thunderbird further threatened the future of the automobile that would ultimately go down in the chronicles of American auto history as ‘the only true American sports car’, by outselling the Corvette by 24 to 1. Ouch — that must have hurt!

While the T-bird was looking great on the highways of America, the Chevy Corvette (not yet the 57 model) was still languishing in the showrooms. It was at this time that GM considered killing the Corvette, or in the words of an devotee ‘murdering it’. Things were not looking good.

Enter the V8 engine and Zora Arkus-Duntov. Zora, who to a certain extent wrongly was designated ever after as the father of the Corvette, inspired the V8 design and spec for the 1957 Corvette. The V8 engine is recognized with being the single most significant modification made to the Corvette to date.

Enough of the history. Granted the new V8 engine the 57 ‘Vette zoomed from so-so to strength in performance and was re-christened as a serious sports car.

While the 57 Chevy is as synonymous with the American dream as Mom’s home-made apple pie, the US does not have the monopoly on autos in dreams. The Chevy Corvette began appearing in the dreams of car-lovers all over the world and started attracting a global fan base. They were introduced to the ‘Vette through the medium of its frequent guest TV appearances, where it often got its own listing in the show credits! How’s that for a comeback story?

The 57 Corvette is coveted and collected by classic car enthusiasts all over the globe. They are selling at car auctions for anywhere from $70,000 upwards, with no shortage of adoring buyers.
