Mathematics is the essential subject required in everyday life throughout the globe, 24 hours a day. A revolutionary use of Mathematics is using it, in solving crime. Inspired by some real life incidents Scott Free Productions has produced a television series in association with Post 109 and CBS Television Studios for CBS, called Numb3ers launched in the January of 2005. Crime fighting in the city of Los Angeles takes a new turn, where the complicated cases are diluted thoroughly with traditional investigation rules blended with mathematical equations. The name of the series creates a curiosity among viewers.

Two brothers work here for the same purpose. Fighting criminal activities, but their modus operendi is totally different. The big brother Don Eppes is a special agent in FBI. His assets are his skill, dexterity and hard working nature mixed with his experiences. The younger one is Charlie Eppes who teaches mathematics in California University and is a master in that subject. The brothers are not so much close to each other. Don reluctantly asks his brother Charlie to join the bureau and he does so. Later on while working together the brothers share a good bond.

The show initiates just like any other average crime series. But as it continues the theme starts to reveal itself. FBI methodology of getting into the pulse of criminal minds and mathematical equations of probability are combined together to detect any crime investigation in a pinpointed way. Mathematical theories and practices are used by law and order departments to make the society a more better and peaceful place to live in. This confluence of law and mathematics is successfully working in practical field. The TV show is inspired from this fact.

Agent Don Eppes depends on his work experiences and clues left behind to solve the cases. Charlie Eppes calculates on probabilities and equations to get the bottom of any crisis. Both of them are excellent performers in their respective fields. Their divided paths lead to the same goal of catching the guilty person. The two brothers come at each others help with their own abilities.

There are other efficient personalities who extend the brothers their helping hands. Larry Fleinhardt the gifted man with mathematical genius, a true guide of Charlie. Amita Ramanujan, another sharp minded mathematician whose knowledge helps the brother duo a lot in investigations. The later episodes show a romantic angle between Charlie and Amita. David Sinclair and Terry Lake two other colleagues of Don and Charlie in the bureau.

Don Morrow plays the big brother Don Eppes and David Krumholtz is the brother Charlie. Navi Rawat is in the role of Amita. Peter MaCnicol portrays Fleinhardt. Alimmi Ballad acts as David Sinclair. The creaters of Numb3ers are Cheryl Heuton and Nicolas Falacci. The executive producers are – Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Cheryl Heuton, David W. Zucker, Andrew Dettmann, Nicolas Falacci, Don McGill, Lewis Abel and Ken Sanzel.
