I personally don't think the world is going to end in 2012. Yes, i've heard about the mayan calender and how they predicted the world ending. I've heard a lot of different stories about it though. I've heard about mass flooding and that a meteor or something is going to hit us but are there any more? Which one of the many theories is the most likely to happen? Is there a main one? What do you think is the possibility of this madness coming true? Im just curious to see what answers some have found.

December 21st, 2012 is the end of the current bak'tun in the Mayan calendar. It isn't the end, nor is it a prediction of armageddon. It's simply when the calendar cycles back over. unlike our additive calendar, the Mayan calendar is cyclical and resets about every four thousand years.

A great many people, most of whom were severely disappointed when all the world's computers didn't explode on Jan. 1st 2000, are trying to panic other people into thinking 2012 is the end of the world.

I personally beleive that the world is going to go into a downward spiral of disasters. not just one thing will end it. try watching "nostradomus 2012" or another movie about the event.

they mayans did NOT predict the world would end when their calendar ran out. they had a cyclic calendar and at the end of this calendar, a new cycle would begin. just like we replace our calendars every year.

Yeah, the credible sources I've read on the subject (read: not the sensationalist pseudo-journalists) all agree that the "end of the world" prophesied to occur in 2012 is nothing but the end of a certain part of the Mayan calendar and the beginning of another. People just need to calm down.

The world will end, one day, regardless of who says what. It could end in 2012. Read the lyrics to the Beatles' song, "Eleanor Rigby" and you will get an idea of what may happen, in the end. Personally, I think that there will be some major change in the world but I don't see it as being a catastrophic change. For instance, it is very much possible that all of the countries in South America may unite and become one country. that would be a huge change. but I don't see it as being catastrophic.

Although it's true that Nostradamus seems to predict the end of the world, possibly in 2012, and the Mayan calender begins its new cycle, I don't worry about it too much. I mean, if it happens, it happens, no way to stop it. And if it doesn't happen, all the better for us.

it's not actually the end of the world. the mayan calendar is just a cycle. 2012 is just the end of the mayan calendar. they said that we'll be experiencing pole shifting, flooding, earthquake, volcano eruptions, storms, and meteors all at the same time at Dec. 21, 2012. they also said that we'll be having 2 suns in that day because the planet x(long lost sibling of the sun) will return. However, it's not only the mayans who predicted it, even the I Ching, Merlin(the wizard), the bible(revelation), the web-bots and the cybils all predicted that the world will end in that date. I think it's a big coincidence and just all made up.
i don't personally think that the world will end because people made all of that up to become rich and famous.

I have heard that too and about these Asian scroll/s that someone found and a person made a time line of the events of what was written on the scroll/s and the dates are the same as major disasters, and the destruction's of one empire by another, once the guy was done translating the scroll/s the last date and end of the world was on 12-12-2012 just like the Mayan calender. Also read Revelations in the Bible it talks about the beast and the last days of Earth. I have also heard of a giant computer in europe somewhere that is called the beast and that everyone will be marked with a computer chip in their body somewhere possibly their hand or wrist to link them to that computer. if you would read the bible it says in there that after God flooded the Earth the first time God promised Noah with the symbol of a rainbow in the sky that the world would never be destroyed by water again. You'll just have to wait until the end to find out just pray that it wont happen in your life time because I doubt that it will be something you'd want to see.

If your going to read an answer. Read this one. First a little about the mayans they based their predictions..well almost everything on their map. or calendar whatever. Andyways they believe that in this earth there atre 5 cycles and in each cycle there are 5 sections and at the end of those sections something bad will happen. And after the sections (each section it gets worse until it closes the first cycle) and at the closing of that cycle is a big catastrophe. now the cycles repeat themselves. Example" let's say january is a cycle. Well on jan 5th something bad happened. Well when january finishes and feb. Starts on the 5th of feb something 2 times *** bad happens because its the 2nd cycle. now the weird thing is the great deppression the holocaust (spelling) they where all at the end of the calendars cycle. Meaning they knew and it got bloodier and bloodier. they believe there only can be 5 cycles with the last cycle being the worst and what they belive "the end of time" now we are on the 5th cycleand this cycle ends on december 2012. now they haven't been wrong so far. they have prophesized a lot of american ctastrophes but for you people that say omg y2k bull. The 2012 hoax-off has many claims, even quite a few that are self contradicting, and many others that contradict other parts of it.

It is difficult to calculate where it began. It seems several different armageddon's sort of (slowly at first, then faster and faster as of recent months) "merged" into one.

First off, you have the Mayan Calender, (a cyclical calender) that turns over to a new Baktun on Dec. 21 (or 23 to some people's interpretations) 2012. It's the equivalent of a new year's day for them. The calender rolls over, like your car odometer would… and you car doesn't end when it ticks over to a new front digit, does it? The guy to blame for this nonsense is Jose Arguelles. Do a wiki search on him to determine if he has any understanding of archeaology or interpretation of Mayan artifacts, (credentials are lacking, imagination is not). Then decide if you wish to believe him or not.

The Planet X nonsense is the concoction of Nancy Lieder. she tried to sell books to "survive the end of the world" when this planet was suppossed to crashinto earth, or cause a pole shift, or whatever… back in 2003.

Since she didn't sell enough books, she republished it, changed the date to match with Jose Arguelles' end of the world, and, VOILA! a new money making machine with zero scientific evidence whatsoever!!! Hooray! a sucker is born every minute… And Ms. Leider wants that suckers wallet. Throw her lil sidekick Mark Hazelwood into the mix, and you have a recipe to confuse people into scaring them into emptying their wallets.

Ooooh, don't get me started. First of all, he misinterpreted an ancient Sumerian artifact. Fudged some dates on some mass extinction periods on earth, and came up with some 2085 date for the Annunaki to come back and get the gold from earthlings that we've alledgedly suppossed to have been mining for them for a few millenia.

Problem is, Sitchin's fake planet was not intended to come in 2012, he claims it will return in 2085 (equally impossible), either way he is upset the 2012ers had no problem hijacking his planet and throwing it into the mix, not that a fake planet will come by no matter what hypothetical year you attribute to it.

2012 is the the year of spritual awakening. not in a religious way, but in a way that we will find ourselves and our rediscover our connection with the Earth.
