The Mayan and Other Ancient Calendars (Wooden Books)

The Mayan and Other Ancient Calendars (Wooden Books)

The only small, popular book on the important subject of ancient calendars.

The study of heavenly cycles is common to most ancient cultures. The ancient Egyptians, Chinese, and Babylonians all tried to make sense of the year. But it fell to the later Mesoamerican Maya to create a series of calendars that could be cross referenced. In doing so, the Maya discovered many strange numerical harmonics.  Their lunar calendar was extremely accurate--far more so than the Greek Metonic cycle; they tracked Venus to an accuracy of less than a day in five hundred years and their tables could have been used to predict eclipses seven hundred years in the future. This book will provide a much needed compact guide to the Mayan calendar systems as well as covering the essentials of calendar development throughout the world.

The year 2012; the Mayan Calendar & Prophecies

Why 2012?

Why should the so-called “end date” of the Mayan calendar – at the time of the winter solstice on 21./22. December, 2012 – be of particular importance?

Why did the Maya consider this date to be so especially unusual that they regarded it as the completion of their calendar cycle ?

It is not the calendar date that is of importance here, but the astronomical event that takes place at that time – namely the particular position of our solar system in relation to the Milky Way.

It seems that the Maya had knowledge of the so-called “precession of the equinoxes” and they could foresee this unusual position of our solar system. It appeared to them to be of such profound significance that they chose it as the end of their calendar cycle.

Indeed, this extraordinary astronomical constellation does prove to have historical, astrological, geophysical and human-neurological consequences. An understanding of these relationships reveals to us not only the implication of the Mayan calendar, but – from the prophetic perspective – the development state of humanity as a whole.

Do you think that this world is going to end in December 2012 according to the end of Mayan calendar?

No…biblically impossible

According to the end of the Mayan calender, the Mayan calender will restart.Mayans didn't say that it had to do with the end of the world.

No… scientifically almost impossible.

No. The Mayan calender ends on that day because they were wiped out by Spanish invaders before they could finish it.

Yes but look on the bright side….2012 is a leap year….that means that we all get 1 extra day on February 29……..thank you Jesus.

Another "end of the world" crap publicized by the internet.

I bet you a million dollars it won't end ;-)

no it is not

No sir! read the bible!
the world will end with an anti-christ!

Besides it can't end yet! I graduate 2013!!!

No why would a primitive culture which doesn't exist any more have a any inside information. They just made calendars up until that time it seemed enough back then

Well, the first thing to realize is the Mayan calendar doesn't say the world will end in December 2012.
The Long Count calendar is made of cycles – Dec 21 2012 is the end of one cycle (called a bak'tun) and the start of a new cycle (scholars have calculated the calendar out to about year 4772 with no sign of the end).

So, since that "prediction" is false, lets look at some of the others that are floating around:
– Planet X/Nibiru is supposed to hit us (but… it doesn't even exist).
– Pole shifts are supposed to destroy the magnetic field (but… pole shifts take thousands of years to happen, not a few years).
– The sun is supposed to align with the galactic plane (but… that happens every December, why would it be a problem in 2012?)
– The planets are all supposed to align (but… that can't happen ever, its not likely it will happen in 2012).

Its a hoax that started in 2003 – I am surprised that some people still don’t get that.

If the Mayans could predict the future, why can't you?

I only believe in the predictions of sports illustrated models calendar.

2012
Scientists do not predict dates for the world to end. that is done by religious zealots like Harold "Quack of Doom" Camping, charlatans and lunatics. Some people are all three at once.

These predictions for 2012 are not science, they are anti-science, delusion, gibbering superstition and fraud posing as real knowledge for profit.

There is no Mayan "calendar" here. there is however a count of days that is supposed to fill up a "baktun" about 2012, probably in December 2012 but it could be years either side. We are not sure exactly when the count started. it appears to have been in August 3114BC by our system but it might have been earlier or later. in other words, the last day of the baktun (which is 144000 days long) might have passed and we didn't notice.

There is no prophecy of the EOTW or any "spiritual change" from the Mayans. anyone who claims that there is is a plain liar, fool or fraud. And there is no prophecy from any other culture, ancient or modern about 2012, except the fraudulent and sub-criminal recent one from confidence tricksters in our culture. Not even the descendants of the Mayans believe in this spurious drivel.

The prophecies for 2012 are lies based on lies. there are no alignments, no predicted solar flares, no rogue planets or any of the rest of the pseudo-scientific and fake-historical babble.

The entire thing is delusion, superstition and lies invented by the reality challenged and used by the ethically challenged to make money from the mentally challenged.

http://www.2012hoax.org

No I do not because no one know the day or the hour. however I know we are deep in the last days. therefore it could end before 2012. but who knows?

Do you think that this world is going to end in December 2012 according to the end of Mayan calendar?

Can Anyone tell me about the Mayan Calendar and their prediction of how the world will end on December 21 2012?

So yea we're doing this thing in Astronomy about the Mayan Calendar and i need ideas about what's going to happen on

DECEMBER 21, 2012……….

any help would be awesome!!

The Mayan calendar does in fact end a cycle on December 21, 2012, but nowhere did the Mayans predict the end of the world.

Scientists don't expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, other than the solstice, which happens every year.

None of the "predicted" happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. "Planet X" and "Nibiru" simply don't exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn't line up with the galactic centre; it's 6 degrees off. No asteroids or comets are actually predicted to hit Earth.

All of this stuff was put together by crackpots in order to promote their books and TV shows, and shamelessly promoted by the History Channel. Don't take any of it seriously!

Actually, the Mayans never said the world would end in 2012.
Their Long Count Calendar ends then – no big deal, our calendars end every year on December 31 and we never worry about it, we just start a new one each year.

The whole "end of the world in 2012" mess began with a number of different "prophecies" from a dozen different, completely unrelated and sometimes contradictory sources, all smushed together by people that either don't understand basic science, or don't care about facts. and then it has been kept alive by people that either enjoy panicking the uneducated or want to get money out of the gullible.

So for facts (not "theories"), do some reading from reliable scientific or scholarly sites on the Long Count Calendar. Since the Mayans didn't leave a written record, you need to read the interpretations from a number of researchers, not just one "translator".

You're doing this in science class? My faith in the educational system hit rock bottom.

The world will not end. All there will be is the winter solstice, which happens every year. Shame on your teacher for incorporating this idiotic doomsday scenario into it!

Also, tell your teacher that the Mayans never predicted the end of the world and that they should branch out from the University of YouTube for their sources of information.

The world didn't end on 01/01/01 or 02/02/02 or 03/03/03 or 04/04/04 or 05/05/05 or 06/06/06 or 07/07/07 or 08/08/08, so I don't think it will happen on 12/12/12 or 12/21/12 either. The marking of time is a man-made phenomenon anyway, and so are the superstitions around dates. It's completely random, so this calendar date means nothing, unless you have an important meeting on that day of course!

I read a book called "The Orion Prophecy" by Patrick Geryl. It's a good book. I recommend it. he says that what is going to happen is that the two poles, the north pole and the south pole are going to switch places all of a sudden, like in a matter of seconds. This happens every 25,000 years or so and the Mayans figured out how to gauge when it will happen by certain things in the sky, certain planets and signs doing things. and this thing is going to happen on Dec. 21, 2012. When the poles shift, the force of it will toss the earth like a frisbee and there will be earthquakes and tidal waves immediately and huge floods everywhere. most of the world will be killed. I am trying to figure out how to cope as this date approaches, particularly on the date itself. because I really kind of believe it and I'm scared. My brother told me to get drunk. I think that's a great idea. But you should read the book. It's very intriguing.

The Mayan calendar that everyone is talking about is a day-count calendar. It was not the common calendar used by the ordinary people (the kind you pin behind the door to the pantry). The common calendar began each year on the day of the Winter Solstice.

The day-count calendar was a calendar that… counted days. It was created by Mayan astronomers to calculate very long intervals for astronomical events. To find the interval (in days) just subtract the two dates. No need to worry about how many days per months or did we forget any leap years.

Modern astronomers use a day-count calendar (for the same reason). It is called the Julian Day calendar. Halloween night 2008 will be day number 2,454,771.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_day

The Mayans did not use a base-10 counting system like us, so their numbers look strange to us. But they were very simple for them.

Two things you need to know:
1) Mayan astronomers knew about the precession cycle (as did most ancient astronomers — Greek, Babylonians, Chinese…); precession causes the position of the Winter Solstice to go around the ecliptic in 25,800 years.

2) the round figure 13.0.0.0.0 (when used for dates) was an important round figure (a bit like the start of a year ending with 000 for us).

When the Mayan astronomers set up their calendar, they fixed it so that the round figure 13.0.0.0.0 would fall on their New Year's Day (Winter Solstice), for the year when the position of the Winter Solstice would be in the thickest part of the Milky Way.

This was a relatively easy calculation (almost as easy as, let's say, determining how many days are left until our calendar reaches January 1, 3000).

Mayan astronomers used this day-count calendar whenever they wrote about astronomical events. They describe events that will be seen from Earth well after the year we call 2012.

Obviously, they expected neither the world nor their calendar to end.

Any "prediction" about the end-of-the-world are recent inventions. Some are just meant for 'fun' (people participating in the big 2012 Hoax Off), but some are meant to scare people into buying a book on how to survive the end-of-the-world.

It is a revised version of the book that was published by the same people for the end of the world in 2003…

—-

So, if you are a Mayan, the date we call 2012.12.21 will be the date 13.0.0.0.0 AND it will be New Year's Day AND it will be the beginning of the year during which the position of the Winter Solstice will cross the middle of the Milky Way.

The Sumerians had some knowledge about the solar system and they said that a there was an additional planet which theorists have named Nibiru, and this planet reaches close to the Earth every 2500 years according to the interpreter who researched the Sumerian tablets. The close proximity of this planet could cause some sort of disruption, which could cause more natural disasters. This is all theory of course, but it is one of the theories.

Just in time for 2012!
After decades of conditioning, billions will fall for it.
Will you?

people say either the world is going to end
or that the human race is going to change.

Can Anyone tell me about the Mayan Calendar and their prediction of how the world will end on December 21 2012?

Why do people get scared when they hear that the mayan calendar will end on december 21 2012?

i mean like couldn't the guy who was writing the calendar die and couldn't finish the calendar or that something happened that they couldn't finish the calendar. im having doubts about that god would want to destroy the world with still many believers of him (including me) and innocent children and people who have dedicated their whole lives to him.

To answer your question… Ignorance mostly. On your comment, that's probably what happened. they were chipping away at stone which is a very time consuming process (unlike computer generating calendars); when they reached that date in 2012 they had to flee for the hills for one of two reasons:

1. they were overrun by enemies or,

2. they were overtaken by plague or some other natural disaster.

In any case they failed to predict their own end (by assimilation) so why should anyone believe they succeeded in predicting our end???

Besides, no end-of-the-world prediction has ever come true, ever. And did you know that the people who are pushing the 2012 Dooms Day Prediction are already saying that the exact date could be off by only a hundred years, or so. this with an exact predicted date of December 21, 2012! go figure.

H

You really ought to read about the Mayan Calendar, BEFORE you make claims like "It will end on December 21 2012". Where did you hear that? The History <snicker> Channel?

The Mayan Calendar is a fake. Sure, the Mayans made a calendar, but how many people realize that there were NO MAYANS around when it started? if you could PROVE that the first dozen chapters of the Bible were written by a guy named Hank in the back room of a pool hall in Tuscon in 1954, do you think it would have an adverse effect on Christianity?

Oddly enough, NO ONE CARES that the Mayans just fudged together a calendar. You really gotta be a DIE HARD fanatic to look at the facts and just shrug.

Maybe the whole Mayan thing is turning into a religion?

Of course, you could just make up whatever you want and say "Its Mayan" and hope no one actually CHECKS.

Do yourself a favor and read about it:

2012hoax.org

well they meight thought.

"Hey boss the calandar should be forever or should have an end?"

"Whats cheaper?"

"One with an end. We can make a new one up if this one is finished"

"well then get onto it!"

Why do people get scared when they hear that the mayan calendar will end on december 21 2012?

New World Order vs. 2012 Mayan Calendar?

what is more scary?? new world order or the mayan calendar prediction??

for one the mayan calendar says nothing about the world ending. It's just when their calendars ended, they just stopped making them, there is no evidence in Mayan history or scientific evidence the the world will end. So the Mayan prediction isn't real, and new world order is not scary. if it happens it happens, there is nothing we can do to stop it.

New World Order. What's scarier to you, the world possibly ending, or being a slave for the rest of your life? I'll take death thank you.

If you think its going to end because the Mayans said so then you have nothing to worry about.

The Mayans did not actually predict or say in any way that the world would end on 21st December 2012. Their calender does end on that date but then it starts again. This calender is a long count calender and it obviously had to end sometime. It does start again the next day though. Think of it as a bit like our calender. It ends every year on the 31st December and then we start a new one. Its just like that with the Mayans only their calender lasted thousands of years instead of a year.

As for the other theories going round, it is meant to be the end of the world as we know it, not the actual end if anything happens. There is also meant to be galactic alignment in the Winter Solstice but if this did happen, it won't do us any harm according to astronomers and scientists.

Just try to concentrate on the present instead of worrying about the unknown.

Hope this helps :)

New World Order vs. 2012 Mayan Calendar?

Anyone has a legit argument on the end of the world in 2012?

Ok, so the Mayan calender ended in 2012, so what? have the Mayans successfully predicted anything else? Are there others who predicted the end of the world in 2012? If so, what have they successfully predicted.

2012 is simply the next step in the evolution of consciousness, not the end of the world.

Earth Wobble concludes on 2012 as well. it will be the beginning of a whole new cycle that will start like a 29,000 year cycle.

Has anyone considered that it stopped because a. The Mayans got lazy B. they ran out of materials C. they found it pointless to continue on or D. it stopped because you can't keep making calendars for extended centuries!!!!

If the Mayans were so smart, why didn't they know about deforestation and that it would ruin their environment by cutting down all the trees to make cement to build their temples? if they were so smart, why didn't they see their own end before 2012?

This is what others have interpreted, not what the Mayans claim.

Scripture tells us that only the Father knows the time of Jesus' return. Jesus, the Son, does not know. Therefore no one but God knows. Do not trouble yourself with such things.

EndlessMountain got a point there
they predicted many things
people that dont believe them are
the gullible people.
You know who you are!
;]

it was never predicted as the end of the world…it is viewed as a "great awakening" or "great realization"…what that means, i dont know, will it happen…i dont know that either. and yes, the mayans successfully predicted many cosmic events, as well as solstices and equinoxes. Imagine predicting something like that, that accurately…with no real technology or knowledge about space at all…pretty impressive. But who knows, maybe they just got lazy and stopped recording their calender, or maybe they were all wiped out before they could finish…i will say that D day is supposed to fall on 12/21/12, and that doesnt help its credibility…

no they havent….it means nothing….they just stopped their calendar….whooptie whoop….smart ppl ignore it cuz tribulation takes 7 yrs after rapture and rapture hasnt happened….If rapture happens tomorrow it still takes another f7 yrs!!! which makes 2015!!!!!

Our world will never come to an end…because it has to be in existence as the home of the 'righteous'

(Psalm 37:29) The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it.

Note the word…FOREVER…

WHAT IS TO BE DESTROYED IS WICKED HUMANITY.
(Psalm 37:34) Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, and he will exalt you to take possession of the earth. When the wicked ones are cut off, you will see [it].

I actually saw a discovery special on this not too long ago. according to discovery they predicted the exact day the spainiards were to land in South America. The Mayans believed this to be the end because according to their calendar the earth the moon the sun and the center of the universe will be inline. just so happens that on December 12th 2012 the Sun the moon and the earth will all be in line with what scientist believe the myans described to be the center of the universe. In 2006 scientist also discovered what they believe to be a black hole in that same location. just so you know the sun the moon and the earth align approx once every 5000 years which also happens to be the length of each stage of life according to the myans. The chinese scrolls also predicted the world to end in 2012 as did a computer program created simulate flipping a coin. If you ask me, it's a bunch of bologna.

I have not heard of one.

One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world.

Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) end of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 end of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.

"But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. be watchful! be alert! You do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:32-33)

Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.

The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.

The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.

Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. just be ready to meet God at any time.

For more information, about what Catholics believe about the end of the world, see: http://www.americancatholic.org/Newslett…

With love in Christ.

Anyone has a legit argument on the end of the world in 2012?

Will the world end 2012 december 21st?

I just watched 2012 and did a lil googlin. Solar flares will reach its highest peak at 2012 could this be bad?

The only thing that will end on December 21, 2012 in the northern hemisphere at 11:11 UTC is autumn.

go watch discovery channel.
jesus…..how dumb can you be.

I don't know about solar flares, but they can cause blackouts as they have in the past. but, seriously, my friend says it as a joke: the Mayans just got tired of making future calendars. "Let's make the world end!" not something I'd worry about.

Solar Cycle 24 has already started, our Magnetic Field and Atmosphere protect us from the Sun's Solar Flares, some Sun like stars produce solar flares that can exterminate planetary life (much like the film Knowing portrays) but the Sun in history has never produced such big flares, we are well protected even if this claim is true, we have more things to worry about other then this pseudoscience, such as Global Warming, or the loss of biological diversity. get grip mate.

Will the world end 2012 december 21st?

What is the real fact about END OF WORLD DEC 21ST 2012?

Many people are discussing 2012 as the end of the world due to interpretations of predictions contained in the Mayan calendar. the Mayan civilization was extremely advanced in mathematics, engineering and astronomy. They also had an incredible understanding of time and space. Various calendars were in use to track time in linear progressions within cycles. the “Great Cycle” of the “Long Count” calendar equates to 5,125.36 years. the current Great Cycle is due to be completed on the winter solstice of 2012, December 21. so, it has been interpreted that on this day, the Great Cycle ends, time ends, so the Earth must end as well. However, there are different opinions on what this end date really means.

As mentioned, some believe cataclysmic events will take place in 2012 with the ultimate destruction occurring on December 21, 2012. others believe that the world will not end, but instead humanity will enter a new age, marked by significant changes physically and mentally.

Hopefully destruction will not occur and it will be just another day. maybe there will be some cosmic transformation. anything is possible and it makes for an interesting discussion none-the-less

The first thing is people shouldn’t be scared of the approaching date of 12/21/2012. Often Doomsday prophecies are very scary, but the Mayan calendar only stops on that day. the Mayan’s never predicted that this would be the end-of-the-world, but the beginning of a new age! many more predictions about specific dates of the end of times, have been made in the past which have never come true. the predictions of end times appear to increase in certain time periods. after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ the apostles started predicting that the end was near way back then. during world wars 1&2, the Korean war, and Vietnam war, there were also many predictions of the end times. the media and television programs about 12/21/2012 are only trying to cash in on all of the hype and make a quick profit with 12/21/2012 fast approaching. it is true that mankind is obviously on the edge of another great change, with the recent economic crisis looming, global climate changes occurring, the speed of Internet communication ever increasing. Religious and moral differences world-wide are causing conflicting belief systems about the planets future. the doom and gloom prophecies about December 12, 2012; may or may not have any basis in fact or reality at all! the undeniable fact is that: the Mayans, Egyptians, Nostradamus, have all have predicted that a galactic alignment shall occur on 12/21/2012, modern astronomers have confirmed this as fact. the Book of Revelation in the Bible also predicts that the end-of-the-world will come, in fact the world-religions: Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism have all predicted that Doomsday will occur. many people believed that the year 2000 was suppose to be the end and nothing happened. Will 12/21/2012 be a similar situation with a lot of hype and then nothing? Most likely nothing will happen?? Why are people making even more of a fuss this time around? 12/21/2012 is probably not going to be Armageddon like the media and Internet Blogs would have you believe. It’s very interesting though, why all the fuss? Eventually another global catastrophe is bound to occur, but will it by chance be on 12/21/2012? I really don’t think any major global catastrophe will happen around that same time frame, but we’ll just have to wait and see. there is no bonafide proof that anyone has ever been able to accurately predict the future! the Mayans really believed that 12/21/2012 would actually be more of a transition phase, pointing to a new period in time. Eventually mankind will have to change and continue to adapt naturally to the world climate. Remember change usually starts at the family level, after that the government, and after that the world. the Mayan’s were a very superstitious race and they almost certainly would have believed back then that the world would eventually come to an end no later than 12/21/2012. They could be way off base on their prediction, we really don’t know for certain? it could even be sooner or it may be later?

an ancient colony has a calendar which ends on that day. they did not expand on the calender as they did not have enough space, so they thaught it would be the end of the world cos' it wasn't written down. i cannot remember what culture but they aren't here enymore. their world ended log before ours ever will.

hey, the dinosaurs were arlive for 65 000 000 years and our sun is still young a 5bn years, so why do people say that the end of the world is comeing?

it is not true… i hope

It is not the end of the world, but the ending of our old believes and the beginning new dimensions of reality entering into the conciousness of man or the so-called UNIVERSAL CONSCIOUSNESS will be realized

It just have been saied that Nibirus will come and hit to earth and we all will die.. :l
I dunno where i heard that but.. i don't believe to it so much.. but I would like that it would happen xD just dunno why o_o

The real fact about that is that people cannot predict the future or when the world will end.

There is no fact. Just like there are no facts for intelligent design.

Propaganda just like Y2K. It's not like this is the first time this "cycle" has ended.

well if thats what all the fanatics are saying then it must be true! i guess a new life on mars it is…

There are no real facts.

We'll have that answer on the 22nd of December, 2012, maybe.

There are no facts.

It's a bunch of bushwa!

What is the real fact about END OF WORLD DEC 21ST 2012?

Who thinks the world is going to end in 2012?

Do you think 2012 is our last year?
Do you think the Mayan calender ended on 2012 because they predicted the end of the world or because the Spanish conquerors like Christopher Columbus killed them off before they could finish?
Do you think its just another stupid story, like how the world was going to "end" on the first day of the new millenium?
And what did the Mayans predict was going to happen on December 12, 2012?

I think it could be possible. both the Mayans and Nostradamus predicted it.
It could be that the Mayans just got tired of making calendars, but why did they commit mass suicide then and why did Nostradamus also predict the end of the world on December 12, 2012?
Besides, we're destroying this planet ourselves. I wouldn't be surprised if we had to suffer the consequences soon.

The mayans predicted something will happen to the planets on December 21 2012. so did this man in the 1700's who predicted world war 1 and world war 2. Nobody said the end of the world but we never know. something WILL happen that day though and the mayans predicted on December 21, 2012 we will start a new cycle just as we do every january 1st with a calendar change.

How many hours have you spent trying to find accurate information about what will actually happen in 2012? And what kind of information did you find? what kind of propaganda have you read through? You’ve probably seen some of these “predictions” by now:

The Planets Poles will Reverse causing the ice caps to melt, bringing about planetary flooding, covering the ENTIRE world in water. the Planets in the Solar System will Align which will mean tremendous amounts of radiation being thrown out of the sun, doing god-knows-what to our planet… and us. Planet X Colliding with Earth causing gigantic tsunamis and tidal waves. the impact will be equal to over 10 million nukes, a power that can rip the planet apart like a wet paper towel. You’ve probably read many more variations of these predictions about what really will happen in 2012… but are they just that? just predictions?

After all, saying that you can predict the future is already a gutsy claim… but to say that you can predict something as terrifying and horrific as this…that’s frightening.

And guess what? That’s not the worst part. the worst part is that the biggest claims are coming from those who don’t believe that anything will happen in 2012… the pessimists and the doubters. those who say that nothing will happen in 2012 at all…because they’re not paying attention. And whether they’re just scared, or ignorant, the undeniable truth is this…"Every Major Source of Knowledge, From Einstein to NASA to Worldwide Religions…hey all agree that…” in 2012, something huge will happen. But… what?

The world is not going to end in December 12, 2012, It's just a myth/rumor whatever you want to call it, Nobody actually knows but all you can do is wait until that day comes, Some say that (whoever) came up with the World ending in 2012 just did it to scare people, and some say that NASA said it just for money, so I believe that the world is not going to end in 2012!

Yes, I do.
The Mayan calendar was completed many years before the Spanish came. so, they predicted the end of the world.
Nope, it's not stupid. & people should take it more seriously.
They predicted devestating catastrophes were going to end humanity.

I don't think the world will end in 2012. I DO think people should use the search function to avoid repeating a question that has ALREADY BEEN ASKED HERE THOUSANDS OF TIMES.

Christopher Columbus killed them off before they could finish
and what is with 2012

i though 13 was the unlucky number…

Okay, I think the world is not going to end in 2012. It just doesn't make any sense. It's all probably about that new movie that came out called, "2012" that is about the world ending.

Even that is the end? who really care, far far away to today. so enjoy life and appreciate every day given.

Its not true. But, if god wants it to happen it will. But, im really sure it wont happen.

I think the mayans got bored of counting.

The world will not end in 2012. there is no evidence to say that it will.

I think the world will end in 2012, and i am preparing for it constantly

Nobody at all, – who 'thinks' at all.

For the love of God, please stop!

If it ends how will we know?

It wasn't Columbus… it was Hernado Cortez. Columbus accidentally discovered America.

here's my 2012 mumbo jumbo. take it for what it's worth.

1. For those who talk about 'the bible code' predicting 2012, while we will see signs of the end, Christ told his followers that it will come like a theif in the night, not even he nor the angels in heaven know the date, nor the hour. Only God the father knows. that is mentioned several times in the bible. To say God left a code that gave us the year and time, would be making Christ a liar. if you're religious, you know Christ isn't a liar… if you're not and you think Christ lied about not knowing when the end would come… why would you trust the 'bible code'?

2. the mayans did NOT predict the end of the world. They didn't care about when the world would end. They believed when something is destroyed, or dies, it is reborn stronger. so if they'd be reborn, they didn't care about death or the end of the world. their interest was cosmic and natural events like moon phases, star and planetary alignments and such.

3. ok I'm only going to say this once. PEOPLE… STOP SAYING NOSTRADAMUS PREDICTED 2012!!! this annoys me as it is simply lazy journalism.

in letters to his son, he said his predictions were good through the year 3797 when he felt the world would fall into a dark age, and the end would come… he made no actual predictions about 2012 that can be verified. (just as predictions about 9/11 and Y2K were faked).

4. the Mayans did NOT predict their own demise. when they were overtaken, the spaniards destroyed many doctuments the Mayans had created, so there is no actual evidence that they meant 2012 is the world's end, or that they actually predicted Cortez's coming.

the main story is that they believed the white bearded God Quetzalcoatl, who visited them 52 years earlier, would return as promised. Cortez appeared 'around' this time (not on the exact date as claimed), when asked if he was the white God Quetzalcoatl, Cortez said "yes" to be accepted into the city.

they predicted that a white God (who had visited them before) would return as promised. Cortez obviously had not visited them 50+ years prior, so they were not predicting Cortez, they were predicting the return of the god who previously visited them.

Cortez came and they assumed he was the white god because of his appearance. He played into that assumption.

They did not predict Cortez's coming… Cortez played into their belief of the white God returning, by pretending to be that white God.

5. and lets remember 2 things… they believed in Lizard gods from outer space, and that the world was destroyed and reborn 4 times. the first time, all life on earth was eating by a Jaguar, who they later turned into a God.

look, ask modern Mayans if their ancestors believed the world would end on December 21st of 2012, and they'll give you a weird look.

here's some trivia I found when looking into the 2012 movie.

"the doomsday theory has sprung from a Western idea, not a Mayan. Mayans insist that the world will not end in 2012. the Mayans had a talent for astronomy, and enthusiasts have found a series of astronomical alignments they say coincide in 2012, including one that happens roughly only once every 25,800 years. once every 25,800 years, the sun lines up with the center of our Milky Way galaxy on a winter solstice, the sun's lowest point in the horizon. the next time that will happen is on December 21, 2012; which happens to be the same day the Mayan calender expires. in addition to the Mayan calendar, the modern doomsday myth is bolstered several ostensibly scientific reasons for a disaster. Examples include a pole shift, the "return" of Planet X or the Sun's sinister counterpart Nemesis, a galactic, planetary, or other celestial alignment, global warming, global cooling, a massive solar flare, a new ice age, and so on. none of these have any basis in respected science. For example, the "galactic alignment" between the sun, Earth, and galactic center happens every December. the best alignment was reached in the 1990s and was accompanied by its own set of doomsday theories. Alignments since then have been increasingly poor."

Who thinks the world is going to end in 2012?

When 2012 turns to 2013 what are they going to do?

All these "end of the world" 2012 preachers that is…. are they going to get on Youtube and admit their stupidity when 2012 passes? Is there a way we can track all their names and have them on file? so when they post anything in the future we can all laugh at them?

They'll be spending their cash! Donate today!

2120 looks like a good number to go fanatic about.

Nah, they'll just say they were 3 months off like the Rapture guy did.

Celebrate celebrate dance to the music

-Change Their Calendars, and start crowing about when the NEXT "Doomsday"- is gonna be !! ;)

In the future? Heck I am laughing at them now!

They are already working on the next "end of the world" stupidity. they will never go away.

What to read something interesting:

http://www.2012hoax.org/

Water will always be hard to find so stock up.

It's not so much the "preachers" of this nonsense, as many of them are just in it for the money, so they will simply say it was their chanting that saved the world and will move onto the next nuttiness.

I wonder how all the gullible folk who believe it all will feel, and what they will do. they are so sure that doomsday is imminent based on all the nonsense spouted by the media. Now they have stocked up on provisions and have built dugouts. Made fools of themselves in public. All that effort for nothing.

So what when the occasion comes and goes and nothing happens. the big question is whether THEY will post questions of this site as to how come they were so easily conned?

Cheers!

They will just transfer the date of the end of the world to April 13, 2036, which also happens to be Easter Sunday.

Many of the 2012 gang are recycled from an earlier prediction in 2003. They'll be back. And they won't have a very far away date either.

Simply move on to the next doomsday, like they have been since dirt was on the ground.

No, when 2013 rolls around, everyone who promoted or followed the doomsday predictions will conveniently shrug off and forget the whole thing. then a year or two or three later, they'll chase after the next doomsday prediction.

Scientific literacy isn't improving in the general population, so people will continue to make the same mistakes they've always made re. doomsday predictions.

If there is one thing the "Chicken Little's" are good at, it is reviving their same old nonsense again and again. most of the time, the only thing they really change is the date. Take Nancy Lieder for example. her 2012 doomsday is identical to her 2003 doomsday in every way, except she changed that date after her original claim had passed without event.

Imaginary doomsdays are nothing new to our species, the following link lists a great deal of them, dating back to over 4000 years ago:

http://abhota.info/end1.htm

Drop a big ball in Times Square.

Anyone else in here thinking back to the "Y2K" panic? lol

No, they're too ignorant to admit their stupidity, they'll just say, well we got the "math" wrong and make up another date for armageddon. why laugh at them, they already make fools of themselves, what's the point? Their redundant and boring and need to do something that benefits us other than blabbering out dates that have no evidence. By the way, the Mayan calendar does not end on this date, the Mayans believed that time was cyclical and that translated into the calendar that we use marks te beginning of a new cycle. People were just being morons and don't know what the definition of a cycle is and the difference between a cyclical process and "the end", or they just got bored and started some propaganda that only the credulous and weak-minded would believe.

Who cares?

People have been afraid of the apocalypse since people have been around. 2012 can come and go and somewhere someone will be spouting the same nonsense. Speculating about it just gives him the attention he craves.

When I wake up on December 22nd, 2012, I will teabag all the 2012 apocalypse believers.

Jokes aside, they will all start panicking about the next apocalypse day, which is supposed to be in 2014 or in 2026.

I think all believers should shut the fack up, get the 1st grade education they never had, an go to into space without protective gear, and explode because of vacuum.

They will have to live with the shame and shunning for the rest of there lives, and probably be the laughing stock of the world.

Well, we were supposed to be destroyed by a mysterious "Planet X" in 2003. When the time came and passed, the woman who made the original prediction claimed she had deliberately give the wrong date to "throw the government off the track". of course, she also claims she gets her information from the beings inhabiting a planet in orbit around the star Zeta Reticuli, and they communicate with the device they implanted in her head.

Look for either that reaction, or for the hoaxers to "run silent, run deep" until they think people won't remember them.

Personally, I'm getting a group together to mock them. Laughing and pointing optional, but strongly encouraged.

Oh, I'm sure they'll think of something.
On the risk of giving them ideas, I think they'll make something up such as saying they misinterpreted (?!) the Mayan calendar and that it really means that it marks the beginning of the end, and that the world will become worser and worser until the end of the next calendar and then "teh woarld will dieee" (??!!). but that the people have to, in the meantime, buy their books and videos… (yeah right).

Idiocy is expensive to the idiots.

They'll start talking rubbish about 2015 or whatever the next doomsday is.

When 2012 turns to 2013 what are they going to do?
