I need to do a speech about this topic and i need a good attention getter… PLEASE HELP

I don't about the beginning but you could say that the calendar ends on that date because the dummies ran out of space on their circle.

Umm well if you are in your sophomore year or high school or college you could make a joke that its not gonna end because of global warming or nuclear war, it because you guys are graduating, and wreaking havoc on the world!

What are the signs, accourding to the bible, of the end of the world?? what happens after that?? Some one told me there are seven awful years on earth to all of those you are left here and in that time they must find Christ… is this true, if not what is?? please don't tell me what YOU think will happen, only tell me what the bible does or does not say. thank you.

The signs are floods and earthquakes.

The Bible claims that persecution is going to get worse (and many Christians here claim that just about anything that smacks of giving equal time to other faiths is somehow persecution), wars, famines, and floods (except of course that there always have been plenty of all three), and a new Temple has to be built (the problem being that the location is a Muslim Holy site…good luck getting the Temple built!). of course, it says a lot of crazy things too, like stars dropping from the skies (neat trick, that, considering what they really are), hail, fires, earthquakes (when have we not had a lot of these too?), locusts with the stings of scorpions, evil horses with human heads and seas of blood and a series of "beasts" like things out of a Godzilla movie, all kinds of things.

Interestingly, the imagery from the Apocalypse is deeply imbedded in the religious traditions of John's time. as many scholars have argued, almost all beasts, eagles, locusts, dragons and acts of nature John describes stem from the long standing tradition of Jewish religious culture — and even date back to the Zoroastrianist apocalyptic of the ancient Iranians. the symbol language John uses would clearly have been understood by the faithful from John's days.

Just once I'd like to see a myhtology that didn't end in a spectacular bang. Just for the sake of variety.

In Matthew, Jesus said there would be wars in one place after another, food shortages, earthquakes, pestilence….also the book of Timothy said children will be disobedient to parents; unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, men who lie with men, thieves, greedy persons, fierce without love of goodness. Everything we are seeing today. I never read anything about "7 years" in the Bible…Hope this helps.

The seven year tribulation theory is what the bible calls a cunningly devised fable. it is based on the false premise that tribulaton is wrath, and God's people are not appointed to wrath. this system of false prophecy is called dispensationalism and was mostly perpetuated by Cyrus Scofield, a masonic heathen who conspired with the illuminatti to deceive believers in churches, and well it pretty much worked, accept on God's true remnant of which the bible says cannot be deceived. Matt.24:24 the bible says we must thru much tribulation enter into the kindom of God. Acts 14:22 There is not space enough to go into all the predominate errors in end times eschatology running rampant. But suffice to say, that the bible says people will be marrying and giving in marriage right up to the end, basicly going about their business. Matt.24:37-38. this indicates that the signs will be right in front of peoples faces, but they will not recongnize them unless God reveals it to them. the true understanding of bible prophesy is the most incredible thing I know of, as Jesus Christ is the spirit of prophecy. Not only do most religions believe we are nearing the end of days, but science does as well. some examples, would be the Jewish plans for the third temple are already drawn. In Islam, Iran is looking for the messiah or twelfth Imam. In Christianity, most agree we are in the end. the Mayan calender ends in less than 6 years from now. the Doomsday theory is a scientific futurist outlook that says we only have 25-50 years left. the Doomsday clock is only 5 minutes away from Midnight. "Global warming could cause global conflict"-National Geographic.

People have been waiting almost 2000 yrs for this to happen and we will continue to wait perhaps another 2000 yrs. Who knows… I just dont think it will be anytime soon if at all.

Well the religion I follow doesn't say that. the end will come when the end will come. I am not worried about when it is. I endeavour each and everyday to live as good a life as possible and to worship the Gods. we are judged by the life we lead, the end of the world is no exception.

What makes you think what we've ever had is really "Civilization"?

That depends upon two things:
(1) Your time scale
(2) what we do in the next little while

Time Scale: If you plot out the 13 billion year history of our universe on a 100-meter scale, human beings have been around for a period that is barely the width of a human hair. given the impermanent, ever-changing nature of the planet, how much time would we have even if religious wars and global warming were not problems?

What we do: Global warming is an issue. If we continue to ignore it, we will suffer the consequences. it is also possible that Earth will be struck by another asteroid, as it has been many times in the past. Again, we would suffer the consequences. we have the scientific and technical means to solve both problems, but this requires us to put aside our spiritual, religious, and political differences and to take actions that go beyond studying prophesies or fretting over doomsday clocks.

Yes, at least, close to a re-birth of mankind, if any survive. we have harnessed, or at least, we think we have, the most powerful destructive force in the history of the world. And we "play" with it as if it is a harmless toy. Nuclear power and nuclear weapons can and will lead to a destruction unlike man has ever witnessed. it is only a matter of time before a major accident happens or a country or a group of terrorists get their hands on a nuclear device. they will not hesitate to use it. With all of our so-called advanced education we still, right now, do not know the results of the accident at Chernobyl. there are thousands of tons of spent nuclear fuel
that must be transported and stored. there are thousands of nuclear weapons that will have to be handled and destroyed, if not used. Logic says the more you handle things, the more chance of accident. there are no true, "fail-safes", as Chernobyl showed us, and it is bound to happen again.

I just watched 2012 and did a lil googlin. Solar flares will reach its highest peak at 2012 could this be bad?

The only thing that will end on December 21, 2012 in the northern hemisphere at 11:11 UTC is autumn.

I don't know about solar flares, but they can cause blackouts as they have in the past. but, seriously, my friend says it as a joke: the Mayans just got tired of making future calendars. "Let's make the world end!" not something I'd worry about.

Solar Cycle 24 has already started, our Magnetic Field and Atmosphere protect us from the Sun's Solar Flares, some Sun like stars produce solar flares that can exterminate planetary life (much like the film Knowing portrays) but the Sun in history has never produced such big flares, we are well protected even if this claim is true, we have more things to worry about other then this pseudoscience, such as Global Warming, or the loss of biological diversity. get grip mate.

The world will end when God decides that it is supposed to end.

but my dads a very smart guy and he told me that if the world would ever be close to ending it would take a few thousand years

all i know is that if it has anything to do with global warming we may
help prevent by recycling saving energy not drivng to the corner store

no, it's just a number. many people have different calendars, and if you beleive the common calendar is based on Christ's birthday, it's out by at least 6 years since King Herod died then.
Global warming is a very slow process, Ice caps melting in 50-100 years for example. The end of the world is not coming anytime soon.

recycling, energy reduction etc is good on its own. walk or bicycle and get exercise.

1. That "rumor" as you call it comes from the Mayan calendar. WHOEVER made it stopped in 2012. So, that's as good a reason as any to start a rumor that IF the Mayan calendar doesn't go past 2012 then … well, apparently civilization won't either.

Trouble is … every other calendar DOES go past 2012!!!

2. The modern-day Mayan's strike no one as being particularly blessed with powers of prophecy, etc. So, why would anyone put any undo creedence on this one factoid.

3. The Bible assures us that NO ONE knows the day and hour of when the end will come. NO ONE! NO ONE including the Mayans and their calendar!!!

4. The Mayan calendar thing is without explanation! in other words, it doesn't say something like: "Man will pollute the earth and destroy it. This will happen in 2012." No, it's just that the calendar stops! That's enough for some to start spreading the rumors!

Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.

The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.

The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.

Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

Well what do I think, well I really dont think about these things. Global warming, etc. I just have my life together and live it, nothing you can do about these things, just set your mind straight and be prepared.

We can not be sure of the "truth" until December 24, 2012.

The world is not at all likely to end in 2012.

As for global warming it can't destroy the world, and is very unlikely to end humanity or human civilization. In the worst case scenarios it could kill millions and cause billions to suffer, but those scenarios aren't very likely either. Major increases in sea levels, if they happen at all, will happen over a long time (thing 2112, or 2212 more than 2012), and will give people time to adapt (if not without cost and difficulty)

In terms of effects by 2012, they would be likely unnoticeable, assuming there is an overall warming trend (at it appears there is), it would be much smaller over the course of 4 years, than the natural year to year variability in temperature. Recent years have seen a little bit of cooling, which doesn't indicate that the idea of global warming is false, only that its not a very rapid thing, where you would worry about the effects in 4 years or less, or even be able to measure the effect of a warming trend which would be a signal that would be drowned out in the noise of shorter term variations.

Massive earthquakes, super typhoons, global warming, floods, and even other severe crisis and disasters have been shaking up people’s view about the state of our beloved planet. some say these events are signs that all point to the Year 2012 Apocalypse.

Many different points of views that all point towards this major event have been causing a wave of panic and unrest among many. People have started asking many questions regarding the 2012 prophecies and are trying to find out if this will really be the end of the world as we know it.

It is hard to determine what is true and what is a hoax. It’s hard to verify fact from fiction with the many websites spreading rumours, viral campaigns, and doomsday movies? Can this widespread panic be a cause of genuine fear, or is it just a product of man’s power to manipulate facts for their own personal gain? it is a sad fact that people are getting more and more restless in their search for answers.

So the big question is: will the world really end 2012? some say apocalypse 2012 will take place, others say it won’t. some have their Faith to hold onto, while others turn to Science for answers. one acceptable answer to the big question is that it will depend on the amount of energy of the Earth. This theory is based on the second Law of Thermodynamics which justifies the possibility of Heat Death or the eventual stopping of the mechanical movement of the Earth due to its total and irreversible loss of energy.

Whichever way people choose to look at it, one simple truth really matters, and it’s that all good things must come to an end. And if God made all things “good”, then maybe it’s just a matter of time before the earth comes to an end too.

Sometimes, answers to seemingly hard questions are just right at our fingertips. maybe the end of the world doesn’t really rely on the cycles or movements of Comets, or Mayan beliefs, or even the wrath of God. maybe the coming of the Apocalypse is an unavoidable fact that everyone has deal with whether they like or not, and that the end of human existence whether it be in some days or in 2012, will only depend on the way Man takes care of our world.
