The world will not end by flooding, as predicted on the Mayan Calendar. As a Christian, I believe God does not?

The world will not end by flooding, as predicted on the Mayan Calendar. As a Christian, I believe God does not and will not break his promises to mankind, with this in mind:
The Mayan Calendar, otherwise known as the Long Chart, does not predict the end of the world as such, there is an image of a crocodile with water pouring forth from its open mouth upon the earth, and this has been taken to mean the destruction of the earth by flooding. now one could assume with the Ice Cap melting, that such an incident is on the horizon, however, it is also worth bearing in mind that the Mayan date of 2012 is a window date at best with at least a 30 too 40 year gap. nor does the Mayan Calendar speak of world destruction; it has just been interpreted that way by over zealous individuals. the image of the crocodile with water pouring forth from its open mouth upon the earth could mean something other than its current interpretation.
This is what God said and promised with regard to flooding:
‘I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.’ Genesis: 9: 11.
It is clear to me that God will not destroy the earth by flooding as predicted on the Mayan Calendar, it is for this reason I find the whole interpretation of the Mayan prophecies to be wholly wrong. Time will tell whether God speaks the truth or not, for we do not have long to wait until December 2012, and one will see that God’s promise is upheld.
Question:
What are your thoughts on this matter?

I think the Mayan calendar could have ended for many, many reasons so to believe that the Mayan calendar is predicting anything is foolish.

I agree with you on this. the bible said our world would be destroyed by fire this time. the reason I don't believe the 12/21/2010 theory is because the Bible says that only God and not even his son Jesus knows when the end will be.

It's a myth and shows how desparate the world actually is for truth.

Because the next time, it will not be by flood but fire and brimstone! ;)

"the world will not end by flooding"

Wow, you can predict the future now, can you?

The Mayan Long Count calendar clicks over from 12.19.19.17.19 to 13.0.0.0.0 on 21st December 2012. That's all there is to it. It's the same as our calendar changing from 1999 to 2000. the Mayans themselves never predicted the end of the world would happen at that time. There's no image of a crocodile related to this date either.
All the doomsday predictions attached to this date are, without exception, unscientific nonsense, perpetrated by frauds and hoaxers.

Even the Mayans do not think the world is about to end. Here is what a Mayan elder says on the subject: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopi…

One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. the next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world.

These predictions are scare tactics, conspiracy theories, and chances to make money from books and movies.

Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.

Here is also what NASA thinks about the 2012 End of the World scenario: http://pwg.gsfc.nasa.gov/stargaze/StarFA…

"But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:32-33)

Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.

The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.

The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.

Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. just be ready to meet God at any time.

With love in Christ.

well, i watched a special on the mayan calender and whether or not the world is going to end, etc….
Here is what i learned:

the calander actually speaks to revolutions of the earth. the axis that earth rotates on has for the most part what seems like an uncontrolled wobble…but it actually cycles in a pattern that can be tracked(this is what the mayan calender does) the last known cycle where it lined back up to where we are supposed be coming up on, was so many yrs ago (i forgot the actual number) but i do remember that it scientifically lined up with the time of the great deluge (the flood). and again around the time that the dinosaurs were wiped off the earth. now whether or not it will bring another flood is a different story but im sure it will bring some form of destruction.

No we not going to end on 2012 likes the Mayans predicted. a lot of people don't know that all the planets will be in one line and they will start counting again. Also people don't know that there is a other calendar that will end couple of hundred years further in the future.

As you said GOD created the rainbow as proof he wouldn't flood the earth anymore.

What might be possible to happen is that the magnetic fields will flip from one side to the other. Read ISAIAH he predicted more like. When the two towers will fall. he already knew that the world was round. we needed the hub to discover because a lot of us are unbelievers.

GOD will take away all the believers. Then give the other 7 years the change to chance there mind after that its done.

The world will not end by flooding, as predicted on the Mayan Calendar. As a Christian, I believe God does not?

Are the 2012 end-time prophecies unlike previous end-of-the-world dates in that there are so many coincidences?

There are literally hundreds of dates in the past where various religions, thinkers, so-called prophets have said that the world will end.

A few of these dates stand out. But of course, all were found to be bogus.

I tend to think that absolutely NOTHING supernatural will occur in 2012. I am more curious to see how humans react to the possible hysteria that could ensue because there are so many prophecies.

But my question is… are the 2012 Doomsday prophecies unique in that there are so many of them? And that such a large number of coincidences between various cultures seem to be involved?

Here is a list of only some of the prophecies

(from wikipedia)

2012 geophysical and cosmological speculations

John Major Jenkins and others [10] claim that an alignment will occur when the sun rises above the horizon on December 21 2012, at which point the sun will rise in the middle of the Milky Way Galaxy, thus causing an alignment between the earth, sun, and the galactic center.[11] it is claimed that this event will cause numerous changes on Earth. However, the event is only a visual phenomenon from the earth's perspective, which is caused by the precession of the equinoxes or the 26,000 year wobble of the earth, and thus only changes our perspective, not the actual position of the earth in relation to the galaxy. In short, there is no gravitational force or radiation to be expected from this event because other than the tilt of the earth, nothing will be any different from what occurs in any other solstice. [12][13][14]

There are also claims such as those of Michael Tsarion [15] that an actual physical alignment of our entire solar system will occur with the horizontal plane of the Milky Way Galaxy on that day. the solar system is moving around the center of the galaxy every 225 million years or so, and while doing so is moving up and down in a cycle crossing the plane every 33 million years. according to the Journal Nature, however, there is evidence of the solar system crossing the galactic plane 3 million years ago. this would mean that we are moving away from the galactic plane, not toward it, and we will not be due to cross it for another 30 million years.[16]

There are also theories that a currently unknown planet, sometimes referred to as planet x or Nibiru, which supposedly has an odd orbit that only enters the local solar system every 3600 years will return in 2012 causing many problems. [17] the idea is traced back to Zecharia Sitchin's translations of Sumerian texts, and specifically to his interpretation of the VA 243 cylinder seal, which he says shows that the Sumerians knew of 12 planets (sun, moon, and ten others). this idea has been challenged by his peers, most notably Michael Heiser. [18] [19]

Among other possible scenarios is that a shift of the Earth's magnetic poles may occur, and that this will leave the earth vulnerable to harmful radiation from the sun.[20] according to NASA magnetic pole reversal does not occur on a particular day or year, but over the course of thousands of years. furthermore, the magnetic field does not vanish during this natural cycle, but becomes more complex as it makes the transition.[21]

Some proponents of the pole shift scenario claim that this shift would be a physical movement of the poles of the earth, and not simply a magnetic shift. this event is called a true polar wander. Earth has experienced a few degree shift in the past, but nowhere near a reversal, and there is no reason to suggest this is likely or even possible. according to William Sager, a Texas A&M Oceanographer, a slight shift in the physical pole occurs at a rate between 5 and 10 degrees per million years, which means that this event could not happen on a particular day or year but only over a long period of time. [22]

2012 metaphysical speculations

2012 is claimed by some with new age beliefs to be a great year of spiritual transformation (or alternatively an apocalypse). There is disagreement among believers whether 2012 will see an end of civilization, or humanity will be elevated to a higher level.[23]

Many esoteric sources[who?] interpret the completion of the thirteenth B'ak'tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order.

Several authors have published works which claim that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012:

* the 1997 book the Bible Code by Michael Drosnin claims that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code, an asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth. Drosnin also states in his book that the Bible code only predicts possibilities.
* the 2006 book 2012: the Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck discusses theories of a possible global awakening to psychic connection by the year 2012, creating a noosphere.
* Riley Martin claims that Biaviian aliens will allow passage ab

This is all "kuso" not true, frauds just create more elaborate lies now after practice long time.

Give that these "claims" are mostly if not completely speculation and largely based on arbitrary points, there is no reason to given them any credence or to think that there is anything other than manufactured coincidence. for example, often people look at the new year as a "significant" date, this is arbitrary as any given point of time is a year later than that time a year ago. Similarly, any number of "alignments" could be constructed at any time, while ignoring that an exact alignment is no more meaningful than say 7 degrees prior or after the alignment.

There was a book published in 1987 called 88 reasons the Rapture will happen in 1988. They had 88 coincidences and we know how that turned out.

When will the World end? will it be 2012?

When will the World end?
According to God's Word, the Bible, the Earth will be without end. Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. (Ephesians 3:21)
The world as we know it will be transformedby fire into a new Earth. for, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. (Isaiah 65:17) looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. (2 Peter 3:12-13)

Will it be 2012?
Jesus tells us know one knows when that time will be. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. (Matthew 24:36) yes it is possible that in the year 2012 the Rapture of the church could happen, but only the Lord knows. No one on the Earth can tell you for sure a date which this will happen. if someone sets a date they are a false prophet and you should tell them the truth, “ that only God knows.”

I blame the internet.

In the past, memes like that could only slowly build themselves up using newspapers, sermons, radio broadcasts and similar means. their hosts were usually unorganized and separated, and still they managed to yield good harvest.

These days, there are forums, blogs, sites like this, it goes much faster and manages to drag more people and references into itself. it will pop in 2012 and begin anew.

No, this is the real thing this time, it's all over for the believers, they're all going to be raptured in 2012. can you imagine what a wonderful world it's going to be without them polluting the Earth with their religious hatred.

Are the 2012 end-time prophecies unlike previous end-of-the-world dates in that there are so many coincidences?
