Sara Pascoe opens her show by saying that last year

Who thinks the world will end in 2012 and why?

Me and a few other peeps think it might end in 2012, the world seems to be going through a "mental apocolypse". That's just me, I'm not trying to offend anyone. I'm open to religion soo what do YOU think will happen in 2012?

same thing as any other hyped up event(sporting, year end, etc); lot of anarchy and unlawful behavior. after 2012 there will be another "prediction", and another… this will continue until those in power decide that society is best kept on a short leash. use your imagination and logic

no it wont its just a chair, think of the tables instead

The End of the World: 2012 Mayan Calender?

Can someone explain to me whats going to happen. Because everyones telling me different things, i mean thats when the Mayan calender ends right? Not the end of the world. but other people say like oooh the wrolds going to end but i dont believe it, can some please explain to me. thanks

I have also heard predictions about the world's end in 2029 and 2036. I prefer to 'believe' these more and stay happy and unworried for the next 20 and more years, so i can continue with my goals and achieve some dream.

2012 is much too close, and most persons, or societies/govts cannot achieve much in about 4 short years. they usually have a more practical 10-, 20-yr plan. For all you know, catastrophic events with the use of a nuclear device, a major tsunami, etc may even happen this year, next year—but is it sensible, wise to worry about these daily and become dysfunctional in our daily lives? I prefer to live in a more realistic manner, based on solid facts, evidence and logic. Let's get to work, or to continue our hobbies or partying! :-) ))

The Mayan calendar does not even end.

It only passes a round figure.

our calendar :: Mayan calendar

2012.12.20 :: 12.19.19.17.19
2012.12.21 :: 13.00.00.00.00
2012.12.22 :: 13.00.00.00.01

and it continues.

In fact, Mayans have left writings where they describe an event that (they believed) will take place on Earth after the year we call 4000, and will involve humans.

Obviously, they expected neither the world, the human race nor their calendar to end.

There is no planetary alignment on that day (or at any time within months of that day). Planetary alignments (when they do happen — and they sometimes do) have absolutely no effect on Earth's axis. none. Nada. Zero.

The Mayans did not predict the end of the world.
The Chinese did not predict the end of the world.
Nostradamus never wrote anything about 2012.
and so on.

There have been many end of the world predictions in the past. Years have passed, and the world is still here. However, there is one date capturing peoples attention. That is December 21, 2012. This year has been said by many to be the end of the world. there are many reasons why people believe this. it all comes from one main idea that the Mayan calendar ends. This is not true. Read on, and these predictions will be explained.
Many people have ideas that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. This is not true, according to many scholars. The Mayans predicted an astronomical event. This event is the Galactic Alignment, in which the sun appears to rise in the direct center of the galaxy. The Mayans do not see this as an apocalyptic event, but rather a celebration that the Earth completes it's galactic cycle and starts a new one. This time would be used to dwell at the past, and enable us to go through a spiritual change. However, this astronomical event was never confirmed by NASA, as far as I know.
Now, that being said, take a look at these other predictions. One prediction, made by modern day humans is the idea that a Planet X will crash into the Earth. This is simply a lie. there is no Planet X out there. Another prediction, is that we will experience a magnetic field flip. now, this might be true. However, there is no potential threat to man kind here. The process can take many years to complete. One other prediction that I will mention is that the Earth will stop rotating one way, and rotate the other way, causing the crust to separate from the mantle. This is simply impossible, claims Nasa.
In my opinion, no one should worry about 2012. I still do sometimes, and that is normal. But don't let it take up your lives. Live everyday like it's your last, and enjoy life.I can not guarantee that the world won't end in 2012, but with my research, I am confident that it won't.

I'll tell you what will happen: nothing.

The reason the Mayan calender ended with 2012 was because they stopped. no other reason.

Contrary to popular myth, the mayan calender was NOT more accurate than the gregorian calender we use today. The Gregorian calender is the most accurate calender ever created.

The Mayan Long Count calendar doesn't end, it merely clicks over from 12.19.19.17.19 to 13.0.0.0.0 on 21st December 2012. That's all there is to it. The Mayans themselves never predicted the end of the world would happen at that time.
All the doomsday predictions attached to this date are, without exception, unscientific nonsense, perpetrated by frauds and hoaxers.

Nothing is going to happen.
Its all trash, uneducated drivel, completely inaccurate, totally unscientific, and just plain hogwash.

Something will going to happen in 2012!!

Get ready for…….. 2012 London Olympics!!

THat's the only thing in 2012.

Not only did the Mayans believe the world would end on this day so did the ancient chinese.there also is an alignment of the planets due on that day that could cause a shift in the Earths axis and rotation Scary isn't it.
