The Maya Calendar depicted here was called "the Haab", the Maya solar calendar of 365 days. It was divided into 18 months of 20 days each with a period of 5 days left over at the end of the year. This short 5 day month is called Uayeb, "the resting or sleep of the year". The Maya also used another calendar of 260 days called the sacred round or Tzolkin composed of 13 months of 20 days. A cycle of 52 solar years, called the calendar round was also used. The calendar round of 52 years included both the Haab and Tzolkin calendars intermeshing with each other. Any specific day in the 260 day calendar had a unique corresponding position in the 360 day calendar but that corresponding position would not repeat itself again for 52 solar years. This calendar sculpture shows the Maya God of Time at the center, supporting the burden of time on his back. He is surrounded by the hieroglyphs of the 19 months.

Twilight of the Gods: The Mayan Calendar and the Return of the Extraterrestrials

High up in the Bolivian Andes-4,000 meters above sea level-lies Puma punku, an ancient ruined city that simply could never have been constructed by its Stone Age inhabitants."Something here really stinks to high heaven," writes Erich von Daniken.

"In Twilight of the Gods," says von Daniken, "I document precisely what it was that left the first visitors breathless as they stood before the mighty stone blocks some 400 years ago. I will show you what archeologists discovered hundreds of years ago and demonstrate how much has been destroyed over the centuries. Intentionally.

"I will also prove that Puma punku was not built by any Stone Age people.

"And in December 2012, the gods will return from their long journey and appear again here on Earth. At least that is what the Mayan calendar would have us believe.

"The so-called gods--the extraterrestrials--will come again. We're headed for a 'god shock' of major proportions.

"But doesn't anyone with half a brain know that interstellar travel is simply impossible because of the sheer distances involved? And that extraterrestrials would never look like us?

"Well, dear readers, I destroy these preconceptions. Systematically. One bit at a time."

In his own inimitable way, Erich von Daniken picks these preconceptions and prejudices apart with a clarity no other author could manage.High up in the Bolivian Andes-4,000 meters above sea level-lies Puma punku, an ancient ruined city that simply could never have been constructed by its Stone Age inhabitants."Something here really stinks to high heaven," writes Erich von Daniken.

So is 2012 the end of days?

I am sortha scared if 2012 will happen i would like if i heard good news that it won't happen.

only time will tell but the crap that people thing about the world going to end, its just a misinterpretation of the text they read. The maya actually believed that 12/21/2012 was a huge celebration meaning it was the end of a 26,000 year period that marked the end of a period called the 13th b'ak'tun which was the last recorded ba'k'tun on the maya calender thus making people believe that the world will end since there is no more calender

or maybe the maya just ended up killing their own civilization before they could finish the calender .

only time will tell my friend

2012 is a fantasy movie, not a prediction of the future.

We can't predict the future so stop worrying.

The 2012 movie is no more true than the Snow White and the seven Dwarfs movie, how much sleep did you lose over that ?

As for the Mayan calendar, all calendars end, ours ends on December the 31st, nobody's panicking over that.

end of days means end of Earth's rotation and i don't believe that earth will stop rotating all of a sudden. the Mayans, who were good with their predictions, did not predict any catastrophe. it was just that with the technology available at that time they could only make draw a calender up to 2012AD.
there might be increase in natural disasters coz of the pollution and other things but certainly not 'end of days'.
no extra-terrestrial(planet x) thing or life can destroy earth. it is we humans who are gona end life on with our earth with pollution, wars etc,…
so chill out ends not near.

Well stop being scared, http://www.wimp.com/debunkinglogic/

It may be slightly insulting but so is the idea that after 4.5 billion years that Earth will end, because of an event that happens on a yearly basis ('galactic alignment' which actually is only impressive to us, it is due to perspective and nothing else)

No, it's just a 100% internet hoax!

Why?

The 2012 hoax is FANTASY, and SUPERSTITION not SCIENCE!

Do you really believe that the 30,000+ amateur astronomers just in the USA!!, and the hundreds of professional astronomers, would have just MISSED seeing Planet X! no where on the internet can you find the sky coordinates for this fake planet..

No Near Earth Objects are on a collision course with Earth right now for 2012, and a magnetic pole shift takes thousands of years to occur. The rotational AXIS of the Earth has NEVER shifted 90 degrees!

Also, the Earth and the sun line-up on the center of the Milky way Galaxy EVERY YEAR on December 21st! We are actually about 6 degrees away from the center and moving further AWAY! further, the planets NEVER actually align in a straight line; their tilted orbits prevent this.

So please forget about this 2012 nonsense. It's just junk science gone wild on the internet!

Watch this famous astronomer Neil deGrasse Tyson as he makes fun of the 2012 hoax.

http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astr…
Read NASA's 2012 debunking web site and see what REAL scientists say about 2012.

As for the Mayans, they believed that the Earth was flat and had 4 corners. They also believed the sky was held up by 5 trees each a different color, and the Earth was resting on the back of a gigantic crocodile floating on a huge pond of water lilies! and of course, they worshiped the SUN god! Their calendar was about as accurate as the ancient Chinese, Romans, Greeks, and Arabs. All of them used for farming and religious ceremony.

Good grief! just "new age" hocus pocus! and junk science gone wild on the internet.

2012 the "end of days"?

Yes, just like Dec 31 is the ":end of days" for each year. All 2012 means is that the Mayan civilization collapsed before they ordered their replacement calendar for 2013.

Only if you believe it is. just move on with your life…You can prepare for it if you want, just don't overdose yourself with unnecessary crap like a lot of people did in y2k

@JT, either way, the correct outcome is to hit you with that bet…

YES THE PLANETS LIFE MAY FACE THREAT OF EXTINCTION IF NOT PLANET AS a HOLE . LIKE SUDDEN APPROACH OF ANY UNKOWN BLACK HOLE OR SOME GIANT SUPERNOVA EXPLOSION CAN WIPE OUT OUR PLANET WITHIN MINUITES. IT IS JUST a QUESTION OF WHEN , MAY BE 2012 OR 20012. THE TIME WILL TELL THE TRUTH. EVEN SCIENTIST MAY FAIL IN THIS REGARD OF EARLY PREDICTION OF OUR DEFINIT END.

they said the world would end on 2000, and 06/06/06, and we're still here aren't we? now we're supposed to believe what people who are all dead and had none of the technology we have predicted.

i bet my life that the world will not end in 2012

There's not one single bit of good, hard scientific evidence showing that the world will end in 2012. All the junk you've been hearing and reading is just that…junk; none of it has any basis whatsoever in *real* science.

The "end of days" is a religious concept (and a pretty dubious one) and has no place on a scientific forum like this.

1) no.

2) I will be celebrating January 1, 2013 when this 2012 rubbish is over.

It's a hoax made up to sell books and movies to gullible people. Also, seriously, this question has been asked more than 20,000 times. Try the search function first next time.

No, there is no scientific evidence for the end of the world in 2012. It's all been made up to sell books and videos.

No. It's just the end of the Mayan calendar, not the world.

if we die, we die. if we don't, we don't.

So is 2012 the end of days?

What do you think about the theory 'the world will end in 2012?'?

recently ive heard alot of theories that the world is going to end in 2012. 7 to be precise. Ive read on the internet that scientists are 99 per cent sure about this and expert predictionists predict this too, religious folk also believe this and expert geologists are beginning to get nervous. Apparently a black hole is underway and will be opened soon and this will either save the planet or destroy and kill the planet. If you havent heard about the 2012 theories, research it. what are you views about this???

The Maya were smart enough to predict the end of the world but not smart enough to do anything about it or survive the Aztecs.

Anyways, it fits well with the book of Revelations, so Christians think it is true of course, just like they thought year 1000 would be the end. They've been singing that song for a while now…

NASA has officially disproven "2012." The supposed object that would crash into the sun has not been detected anywhere close to us (or even our solar system), as such an object would be picked up by basic telescopes and space-tracking equipment. also, you forget that the Mayans were simple people, but very intelligent. they invented a lot of things, like the concept of 0 and basic astronomy.

It isn't a theory. it is just wrong.

Nothing of the sort will happen. NO scientists predict it, just nut-jobs in the back waters of the internet!

Do you know how many theories of that kind have been made since memory awakened ? Neither do I. but, I do know that many have been made in the past with poor accuracy… Please, do not fall in this black hole.

it's as true as it was all the other one hundred or more times it was predicted.

Nostrodamus is a false prophet and Mayans didn't want to keep track on their calender anymore so they ended it there.
In 2013, Imma watch the movie 2012 and laugh

Theories are based upon facts, not speculation. as of yet, we have no 2012 theories- just hypotheses.

I doubt it because that's the year I begin to collect the money I paid into Social Security and by God I plan to get back most of it!

i don't think so.they always yap the same thing but nothing ever happens.before ten years they said the same thing but nothing ever happened

Yeah, well, I remember my mom telling me that they said California was gonna be under water when she was little. That was in the 60/70s. It's all bullcrap.

The Bible is Clear..

Matthew 24.36
"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

I've researched it.
I've come to the conclusion that it's fake.

All your "facts" about wide agreement are wrong. It's something a few crackpots believe.

No man is to know the date and hour of the end.

The end of an age, but not the end of the earth.

99.999% bullcrap if it happens and we all die who cares

The world and all inhabitants will die. Just like on 1-1-00

not going to happen but if it does it does

I'm going to wake up on Dec 25th, 2012 and say "FAIL"

… same **** will happen as on june 6th, 2006

we will all die two days before day after tomorrow.

What do you think about the theory 'the world will end in 2012?'?

Will the world end 2012, or are people just being retards?

Will the world end in 2012?

The 2012 World end Phenomina arises from three locations, the biblical referances to the second Coming found in Revelations, the Maya Calander and various scientific and doomsday media sources.

Firstly, the biblical referances in the bible according to the signs of the apolcopse do refer to the second coming happening sometime in the generation that saw the rise of Isreal as a nation (1950s). That said, we can expect the end of the world biblically within the next fifty years if this is what it was refering to; of course the bible is vauge on many of the things in revelations and for this reason people have been tryng to predict the end of the world since the middle ages and we still exist.

Secondly, the Maya calander is the primary soure of the 2012 date, as the Maya were excellent astromomers, and their Calander is circular in design. As such, every 52 years it moves on to a new decimal spot and continues counting. The decimals are designed to relapse and/or repeat every 4000 something years. In other words, it takes ~4000 years to begin and end a cycle of the calander.

Now, the Maya also believed that they began their Calander on the day of creation (5988 BC [Before Christ]) and believed the world would end with the end of the Calander; supporting their mysthicism views. it also served Maya leaders to justify the Calander since it being unable to count indefinatly without repeating would be irelivant if peasents gave into the ideological view that the world would end before they would need to begin a new cycle of the Maya Long Count Calander.

Finally, science (Nasa – http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2006/… and other institutions HAVE identified that in the year 2012 there will be an unpredicdented solar occurance or the "Solar-Peak". However, with estimates, will only paralel the previous most-extreame "Solar-Peak" which occured in the 1950s. and, we are still here, and as always, the solar system and our ecosystem on earth endures.

Combined, Biblical, Mysticisms, and the Scientific community have basically pooled their ideological beliefs to predict the end of the world in the year 2012. However, as stated, the Maya were excellent observers of the skies, and created their calander based on the predictable patterns of the skies and SUN. As such, they likely observed these "Solar-Peaks" (Solar Maximum) and Solar Minimums, so science and mysticism merely converge on the predictable nature of our solar system and rotation of the earth. As for biblical dates, there is nothing in the bible to specifiy 2012, only that the end will come in the generation that saw the Kingdom of Isreal become a nation again; although for all we know this could refer to a second formation long in the future after Iseal falls once more; or something far mroe complex that nobody has foreseen in the future.

In short, as stated by many other people, I will burrow their analogy, the 2012 end of the world is merely a hoax on paralel with the Y2K bug which would supposidly whipe out all technology. Solar flares do occur and will continue to occur long after humans cease to exist, and the Maya based their Calander on the notion that the "Sun God" a large bird (forget how to spell) had given birth to their race and would end the world when their race ceases to exist. As such, I would not be overly concerned by this event; although, for those who wish to search into this issue in more complexity. please research "The Maya Long Count Calander" (Not they had two that overlaped, you want to look at the Long Count); "The second Coming in Revelations"; and "Solar Continum of Minimums and Maximums".

Hope that this helped, tired of seeing these posts so figured I would write a longer answer and hopefully put an end to this hoax. (Will not ever happen with that irritating commercial floating around trying to make a quick buck off of another global hysteria that is no worse than anything we have seen in the past). Farewell!

Which people are being retards, the one's that predict that something catastrophic might happen? If you want to go that route then their opposites, the people who deny it, are just as 'retarted.' The truth is that no one knows what might happen, but it is safe to assume that anything could happen.

However, Consider this piece regarding Numerology: 5 represents change, and it represents evolving humanity striving towards its destiny. If 2012 were real then it would definitely represent a significant change.

2012: 2+0+1+2= 5 (Change)

nobody knows what is going to happen..but if the governments know the world will end, they won't warn us. NASA predicts "amazing galactic activity." for the first time in 26,000 years the milky way will be perfectly aligned with the earth and sun. something is going to happen. it may be nothing serious..but most likely it will be. there are all sorts of predictions…interference with our gravitational field causing all of our electricity and computers to shut down. …..a meteor……shifting of the earth on it's axis, or a pole shift possibly causing the oceans to flow over covering the land……solar flares/storms. then of course the idea of the sun burning out. there is all sorts of perdictions of what is to come but nobody really knows. and the people that may know dont want you to.

I don't believe so.

A lot of people on the History Channel are predicting that, THE WORLD WILL END, THE WORLD WILL END!!! Well, I know you all are scared. The only person that knows what will happen is God. The world will end sometime, but I don't think it will happen in our lifetime. I mean, look at all the predictions they made! hardly any of them came true, so we shouldn't be TO worried. So, I'm going to have to say no, but I can possibly be wrong.

the mayans, indians, and nostradumas predicted destruction on the year 2012.the real reason they are saying that there is going to be earthquakes and hurricanes and all that is because they are trying to actually scare us.its really us that is causing the apocalypse. with the economy with the money, all the wars, people killing each other, and the pollution.the mayans, indians, and nostradomus are really trying to tel us is that its really up to us.its are choice to say if we are going to continue to be the same, or are we goin to change so that we can keep on living.12/21/2012,that date was said especifacally to mark the date that the world change into better people.the indians said there was 5 lives 4 that they predictedd and already happened. its up to us to decide how were going to live the fifth life. thats wats actually going to happen on 2012. its all up to us. thanks for reading!!!

so many people are about this 23 number meaning the world will end in 2013 and all bad things happen on 23 and stuff i had to listen to a friend once go on and on about this subject and i was just like wow youre dumb and if i'm wrong and it does it wont matter bc i'll be dead and he cant tell he told me so. but i think it's just a load of crock.

No. There will be no year 2012.

ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE:

Jesus Christ is returning on may 21, 2011
The end of the world is October 21, 2011

Repent everyone. cry to God for his mercy.
His wrath is soon to poured out upon the earth.

Retards. this happened in the 60's, it happened a few years ago, The world should end in 2012, in 2060, etc. it should not end for a while, because looking at history, it should have ended at least 10 times.

In 2012, the collective naivete of believers, skepticism of doubters, and anxious anticipation of everyone else will collapse into a black hole that will destroy the world.

every body love mysticism. the world will not end as it did not end in the year 2000 and in the middle ages. god did not give this knowledge to anybody nor he asked any of us to even think of it.

for earth. the scary part about their observation is that they are 99.999% right on their predictions. although the chances (.1%) are likely to happen. but I will say this the world will getfurther worse than t already is.

No, just a world wide blackout.

Questions containing the words "world end 2012" have been asked 13,368 times so far.

I vote retards.

I don't think the world will end it is all a big scam so scam artists and history channel can get money.

If only that two you claim about, then I wish better being all of us retards than dead.

Idk i really hope it doesnt i like the world.

Will the world end 2012, or are people just being retards?

Why will the world end on December 21, 2012?

I have to write an essay for my class on why some people think the world will end in 2012. I know the basics, such as the Mayan calendar ending, but I need lots of discussion topics to write the essay. I tried reading the Wikipedia article but I really didn't understand it enough to put it in my own words. I really need just a list of ideas to write about, an explanation of the theory, all the different theories, etc. thanks v. much!!

we have 2 years to go…why not find out ourselves if the world will end?

The world will end on this date due to sheer stupidity.
Don't waste paper on such a stupid topic. You're better off choosing something more interesting. or accurate, like a paper on failed doomsday prophecies.

It is a misconception that the Maya believed the world would end om 2012. In fact, it is the end of the Great cycle and a New one will begin, the closest Western equivilant is the Age of Aquarius. it is based on the viewpoint of the night sky from Earth's eliptical rotation on it's axis.

There is Truth to two things we will be nearing the center of the our Galaxy, and there is such a thing as the magnetic field "flipping", though unlikely.

saludos

The calender of these people ends at 2012. Their lifestyle probably could not produce enough high priests to reach 2013 or more fingers and toes. So, they assume this divine sign from their Gods must mean it will end in 2012.

Only God the Father knows for sure when the world will end. however, one can prepare for that day, whenever it will occur, by praying the rosary regularly. see the following promises.

The rosary is explained here:
http://www.medjugorje.org/rosary.htm

The fifteen promises of Mary to Christians who recite the rosary:
1. whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.
2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
3. the Rosary shall be a powerful armor against Hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
4. it will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
5. the soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
6. whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God and become worthy of eternal life.
7. whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death, they shall participate in the merits of the saints in Paradise.
9. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
10. the faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
11. you shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
12. all those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire Celestial Court during their life and at the hour of death.
14. all who recite the Rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
15. Devotion to my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

God bless!
Dave

There is no evidence that the world will end on 21 December 2012. every reason given by the frauds can be shown to be a lie. you can see a run down on most of the lies at www.2012hoax.org

The reasons that anyone believes in it are not clear, but include the fact that people under 16 or so tend to believe everything they are told. this is an evolutionary advantage for very young children but is exploited by fakes and frauds among those over 14.

The reasons that so-called "adults" believe in it might include the feeling that it makes them feel special and that they have inside knowledge of something that most other people do not. this is also one of the reasons why some people believe in nonsense like aliens visiting the Earth, the Bermuda triangle and Project Blue Beam. Most of these people are not interested in facts, and they generally claim any fact that disagrees with their pet ideas are lies circulated by either some conspiracy of evil people like the non-existent Illuminati or by some government agency.

There are literally dozens of such nonsensical rumours going around, some of them are many years old and have been disproved time and again but some people continue to believe them.

The following site is not suitable for small children, has plenty of f-bombs and c-bombs and is definitely not safe for work, but there are several funny stories about these theorists. you have been warned!

Why will the world end on December 21, 2012?

Mayan Prophecy on 2012 – End of the World Calendar

Everyone seems to know something about the possible scenario for the end of the world on December 21, 2012. Most versions point to the end of the world calendar by Maya. Recently, there have been many additional theories, opinions and gossips evolving around this event. but it is quite obvious that humanity has never faced the apocalypse scenario with so much scientific proof behind it like in these days. This time it is not simply a next hoax about the doomsday.

Here is the top 4 for possible scenarios for December 21, 2012:

1. the Mayan Calendar

The Mayans with their end of the world calendar ending on December 21, 2012 and irreversibly pointing to the end of the world, win the top four.

For those who do not really believe in Mayan calendar, there is another scenario with a mysterious planet Nibiru which on the inevitable date will arrive to the Earth and it will cause a global catastrophe with its gravitational pole.

If Nibiru version is not an option for you then you have the parade of planets at the same date: Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will line up in one line (according to another opinion it will be Venus, Mercury and Saturn).

Not afraid of the parade of planets? Then you should be scared with the horrific invasion of aliens: three giant spaceships were noticed on the outskirts of the solar system, they will just be able to do their way to our planet by the end of December, 2012.

No matter what happens on December 21, 2012 the one thing is for sure: the world will no longer exist in its habitual manner. Most enlightened people agree on this fact.

But with so many speculations around this phenomenon the average person seems to be simply over flooded and embarrassed with so much contradicting information.

Why not take your own trip to amazing discoveries which are entirely based on facts? why not find out how that bunch of different scenarios can possibly overlap with each other and make sense? Dive to the best knowledge source ever devoted to the 2012 phenomena and learn more about the end of the world calendar.

You will be able to get answers to all of your questions and more in book called 2012 Official Countdown to December 21, 2012. This is the most comprehensive guide on surviving 2012 phenomenon.
