Petaluma Museum speakers to address End of Days chatter

The 2012 hype is spreading like wildfire, with flames of myth and rumor fanned by pseudo-science and blockbuster movies, museum director Joe Noriel said.

With an eye to showcasing the science behind the phenomenon, the museum has put together a series of scientists, anthropologists, psychologists and local religious leaders.

With more than 1.2 million web links referencing “2012 predictions,” people may be altering their lives based on misleading and inaccurate information, he said.

“Our hope is to offer people the resources to come to their own conclusions,” Noriel said. “This type of series has never been done (at the museum) that I am aware of and the implications could be life changing for many people.”

On Sept. 1, Dominican University professor Matthew S. Davis will speak on the psychological effects of pending disaster.

David Morrison, director of the NASA Lunar Science Institute and senior scientist for astrobiology at the NASA Ames Research Center, will discuss “Surviving 2012 and other Cosmic Disasters,” on Sept. 2.

On Sept. 3, Robert Davis of the Robert Ferguson Observatory will discuss the significance of antimatter, black holes and the Large Hadron Collider as it relates to 2012 doomsday theories.

The series continues the following weekend with Judith Dides, an anthropologist, linguist, astrologer and interfaith minister, who has been studying the Maya for more than 40 years. On Sept. 9, she will lead a discussion on Mayan hieroglyphics, the calendar and 2012.

All events begin at 6 p.m.

The final presentation, at 4 p.m. Sept. 10, is a panel discussion with local religious leaders who will explore the end of the world as it relates to biblical scripture. Panel members will include the Rev. Blythe Sawyer of the United Church of Christ, Rabbi Ted Feldman of B’Nai Israel and others.

The series will be filmed to be aired later on local cable.

Admission is $5 and space is limited. The museum is at 20 Fourth St.

Why isn't there more publicity on the fact that the world will Not end in 2012?

Just asking because a lot of people i know still believe in it even though NASA has disproved all the things that people think would happen.

My drivers license doesn't even expire until 2014.

If people with legitimate tasks (like NASA) took time to debunk all such silly claims, they would get nothing else accomplished. It is best to just let the more innocuous of these things run their course, and hope that after several doomsday dates come and go, even the idiots will start to suspect they are being duped.

Same reason there's no publicity on the fact that the world won't end in 2013, 2014, 2015…..etc. Why would there be?

Dumb people are going to believe dumb things no matter how many times you try to correct them.

Most people aren't interested because they know it's a hoax and they've seen it all before.

It would be a waste of their time…the only people that talk about this normally are people trying to make money off of it.

Why isn't there more publicity on the fact that the world will Not end in 2012?

What makes the 2012 end of world prediction more scary and predictable than all the previous predictions ?

Just the persuasiveness of the Internet.

One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or about 5125 years. the next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. this is not a prediction of the end of the world. Here is what a Mayan elder says on the subject: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopi…

These predictions are scare tactics, conspiracy theories, and chances to make money from books and movies.

Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) end of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 end of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.

Here is also what NASA thinks about the 2012 end of the World scenario: http://pwg.gsfc.nasa.gov/stargaze/StarFA…

If you want a bit more information on the 2012 hoax, try: http://www.2012hoax.org

"but of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. be watchful! be alert! you do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:32-33)

Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.

The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.

The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.

Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

For more information, about what Catholics believe about the end of the world, see: http://www.americancatholic.org/Newslett…

With love in Christ.

Nothing at all. just jibba jabba but to the people who believe it is because it is closest, after 2012 they are all going to be talking about the great Snow Storm of 2015… Noah's snowy revenge scary stuff.

EDIT everyone book mark this question and come back to laugh at Jeff.

We will not make it to 2012…it's not in the Bible…but it has been revealed from the Bible in these last times that Judgment Day is May 21st, 2011.

Why scared? the world will not end on 2012. this is only human prediction not from GOD, don't rely on it. PRAYER is the best thing for us to do.

I think it's merely the amount of hype that's been shoved in our faces about it is what makes it scarier to some.

Scientist make it more scary. NEVER believe them

What makes the 2012 end of world prediction more scary and predictable than all the previous predictions ?

What are your thoughts of 2012 doomsday? Are you afraid or you don't care?

2012 has a plethora of evidence leaning towards it being true. such as the Bible being similar to the day of the apocalypse mentioned by oracles, and the Mayan calendar ending December 21, 2012. What do you believe?

Please elaborate your thoughts…..

Jesus is going to come back in may of 2009.
The tribulation period is divided into two 42-month periods. Two periods of 3.5 years totaling 7 years.
As you know, the end of the world is scheduled to start on 21 December 2012 according to the Mayans, Edgar Casey, Jean Dixon, etc…
The NASA website shows a full solar eclipse on 22 June 2009, which happens to be exactly 42 months before 21 December 2012. this is possibly the eclipse mentioned in the book of Revelation and in Joel Chapter 2. Thus, the first half of the tribulation could be scheduled to take place from June '09 through December 2012.
There is a lot of Biblical information that is pretty detailed (found in Song of Solomon 2, 1 Cor. 15, Deut. 16, Rev. 14, Matt. 25) that places the time of the Church rapture in may of whatever year it occurs. due to these circumstances, it looks like may '09 could be the year, just in time for the tribulation to kick off in June.
Of course, this is all speculative. There's probably nothing to it.

They are the same people who predicted 1999 to be end of time. they have no reliable basis for their calculation and 2012 will pass as 1999 passed, without any event.

But according to my calculation, Jesus Christ will descend in year 2008 itself and will defeat the enemies who conspired to kill him. he will kill the the Dajjal (anti-christ) and will rule the earth from seat of David for 40 years. therefore the doomsday cannot come before 2062. Let us clear the path of Jesus as John the Baptist did. For anybody who does not believe in second coming of Jesus will lose the chance to serve under his command.

Muhammad Javed Iqbal

The sources pointing to the end of the world / the apocalypse / doomsday, etc. are fully unreliable as evidence.

I'm just as worried about those doomsday predictions as I am about any previous ones; which is to say, I'm not concerned, at all.

No not afraid of 2012, but more interested in knowing the day or hour and minute, second i will die. the Bible says ones day of death is more important than ones day of birth. (Eccl. 7:1) we meet our eternal maker.

ON JESUS 2ND COMING:
Jesus says no one knows when the world will end or (Jesus Christ second coming) even Jesus said he did not know, only the Father God knows. "it is not for you to know"

Secondly, it shall come like a thief in the night, not by earthquakes, volcanoes, wars, etc but a sudden appearance when mankind is not expecting.

2 working: one taken the other left
2 farming: one taken the other left

The above depicts an event like the umpteenth wonder of the world; like a new wisdom never discovered.

Therefore, watch and pray(BE READY)!

Well
If it has to end
It will end
What on earth
Can anyone
Think about it
Or do about it
All the thinking and Doing
Will be in vain
Either way
Whether the world
Ends or does not End
Why fear, fret and fume
For over four years from now
Better lead your life
The way you have lived so far
After all
All doomsday predictions
So far
Have a record of
100% failure

The calendar ends, and that means so must the world? Come on, the calendar had to end sometime, since their culture more or less did.

I don't think anything special will happen in 2012. at least, nothing as special as the end of the world.

-IMP ;) :)

My calendar ends on December 31 of this year. It means I have to get my butt to the store to go buy a new one before the new year arrives.

As to the doomsday 2012 thing. I don't believe it one bit.

Just the start of a new cycle. Maybe one where the political superpowers of the world have been changed, a post oil world possibly. I don't think Jesus will premature ejaculate that early.

IF God wanted us to know what day and year the world would end he would have told us. the only person that would be afraid is the one that does not know Christ as Savior. If Jesus on or before or after DEC. 21, 2012- I am ready because I know Christ.

The end of the world has been predicted numerous times http://www.religioustolerance.org/end_wr…

I am not concerned with the prediction. I live in the moment and take one day at a time.

The Mayans predicted that 2012 would bring great change, not doomsday. End of the World predictions have been failing for thousands of years. People quickly bury the previous failed prediction.

the bible was written by drunks…its a joke..the earth is not going to end…and if it somehow does happen you cant do anything to stop it….so w.e

The Mayan couldn't even keep their culture and civilization together much less tell us the end of the world.

i am muslim and i belive that the judgement day only god who can know when it will be it could be tomorrow why not ? could be after 1000000 year who know ? only god knows

It will be a day like any other.

I think "apathy" describes it best…why be fearful of something that is going to happen anyway..whether on a specified date, or not?

I can't wait to laugh when nothing happens on that day.

Im not afraid because i have faith.

hummmmm Is that something some human thought up like the bible.

See you in 2013, dumb ***.

What are your thoughts of 2012 doomsday? Are you afraid or you don't care?

SpaceX breaks ground on Falcon Heavy launch site

The Falcon Heavy is set to blast off soon enough.

(Credit:SpaceX)

The Falcon Heavy from Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) will soon have a launch site.

The company announced earlier this week that it has broken ground at the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

SpaceX has high hopes for the Falcon Heavy. the rocket is the first ever to break the $1,000-per-pound-to-orbit barrier, a feat that many in the space community thought wouldn’t happen for quite some time. SpaceX says that the rocket costs “less than a tenth as much” as NASA’s space shuttle.

According to SpaceX, each of the Falcon Heavy’s engines can generate thrust of 140,000 pounds at sea level and send 117,000 pounds of payload into a 120-mile-high orbit. the rocket itself is 227 feet tall and tips the scales at 3.1 million pounds. It’s comprised of three Falcon 9 rockets, developed by SpaceX, that on their own, will be employed by NASA to bring cargo to the International Space Station.

The Falcon Heavy and Falcon 9, alongside Delta 4 rockets from United Launch Alliance, an organization formed by Lockheed Martin and Boeing, represent the future of space missions in the United States. When Atlantis blasted off earlier this month, it marked an end of an era for NASA’s shuttle program.

“After the wheels have stopped and the displays go blank and the orbiter is unpowered for the final time…there will be a rush of emotion when we all finally realize that’s it, that it’s all over, the crowning jewel of our space program, the way we got back and forth from low-Earth orbit for 30 years…we’ll realize that’s all over,” shuttle commander Christopher Ferguson said last week. “That’s going to take a little while to deal with it.”

The end of the shuttle missions means U.S. astronauts over the next several years will need to hitch rides to the International Space Station on Russia’s Soyuz spacecrafts. according to NASA, those trips will cost the U.S. $60 million per seat.

However, President Obama believes good times are ahead for the U.S. in space, thanks to “groundbreaking research and innovative companies.” Speaking at the Kennedy Space Center last year, the President said that over the next couple decades, astronauts will be able to explore where no person has gone before.

“Early in the next decade, a set of crewed flights will test and prove the systems required for exploration beyond low-Earth orbit,” President Obama said during his address. “And by 2025, we expect new spacecraft designed for long journeys to allow us to begin the first-ever crewed missions beyond the moon into deep space.

“We’ll start by sending astronauts to an asteroid for the first time in history,” he continued. “By the mid-2030s, I believe we can send humans to orbit Mars and return them safely to Earth. and a landing on Mars will follow. and I expect to be around to see it.”

The Falcon Heavy can certainly help the U.S. achieve that goal. according to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the rocket can explore deep space, including sending people to the moon.

The Falcon Heavy is scheduled to be brought to its launch site by the end of 2012. SpaceX plans to launch a test flight soon after.

How to Survive 2012 and Mayan Doomsday

Fear of an uncertain future, spurred by disasters protections put forth by interpretation of the ancient Maya cyclical calendar, have many people clamoring for answers and advice. for example; over the past several months, I’ve received over 100 e-mails from readers, seeking information on how to survive 2012.

The general consensus is that on Dec. 21, 2012, when the Maya’s “Long Count” calendar ends, the world will be thrown into apocalyptic chaos. Predictions range from polar reversal, shattering earthquakes, massive tidal waves, simultaneous volcanic eruptions, sunspots and sun flares, to peaceful transition into 2013.

The truth is no one knows for certain what will transpire Dec. 21, 2012. throughout history there have been many predictions of the end of the world, but the end hasn’t happened – yet. I put little faith in doomsday predictions or dates – most are nothing more than guesswork motivated by the agenda of the prophesier.

Yet, doomsday predictions for the year 2012 do have at least some validity, backed by scientific evidence, for example; NASA published predictions of a new solar cycle in 2011 or 2012, that it (NASA) says could wreak havoc with the power grid and electronic medium during that time.

I don’t know what, if anything, will happen on Dec. 21, 2012 – no one does. My advice is to plan and prep as usual and to be as prepared as possible for whatever the future may hold, whether it be economic collapse, tyranny, peak-oil, climate change, infectious disease or Mayan doomsday.

How to Survive 2012 and Mayan Doomsday

2012 Signs of the Apocalypse?

2012 Signs of the Apocalypse are many. A detailed explanation is given as below.

The calendars of Mayan which are said to be the most accurate calendars end in the year 2012. It is predicted that with the end of the calendar, a new age will start from zero, thus signifying the end of life. the Mayans basically followed three calendars; a solar calendar which was 365 days long and a holy calendar which was 260 days long. Both these calendars synchronized every 52 years. they also followed a long count calendar. the present long count calendar started in 3114 BC and is coming to an end soon; this is believed to bring great destruction to life on the planet.

Another sign that supports the Apocalypse is the earth pole shift, also called the geomagnetic reversal, which according to NASA, may happen sometime during the end of 2012. This phenomenon is where the Earth’s north and South Pole interchange rapidly causing destruction of lives and the malfunctioning of all electronic gadgets on earth. It is also said to have an influence on the birds, animals and fishes that will be lost as they will not be able to judge the correct direction. This could result in major earthquakes, volcanoes and movement of magnetic plates.

Some people strongly believe that Planet X or Nibiru may pass very close to the earth or may even collide with the earth in this year, causing earthquakes, tidal waves and may even flip the earth upside down. However, this idea was long presented in 1995 and was supposed to happen in may of 2003. This theory was based on the ancient Sumerian carvings and misinterpretations of astronomical observations. since the planet did not collide in 2003, many believe that this event may happen in year 2012.

Another theory speaks of a black hole alignment, when an alignment of the galactic center occurs, it is believed that it will create a combined effect of gravitational between the black hole and the sun at the galaxy’s center which is otherwise known as ‘Sagittarius A’ impacting the earth in several ways. However, this phenomenon has already occurred in 1998 and the Sun’s path as calculated by us takes it above the galactic center rather than near it. the earth is also said to be thirty thousand light years from Sgr A*, and studies indicate that the Earth should be at least 6 million times closer for this to impact us.

The web Bot is another sign. This is a series of bots that are automated that search for specific keywords on the internet, searching for patterns. This device studies ‘web chatter’ and predicts various things. the web bot predicted the attacks on 11 September, and now claims to predict disasters, such as earthquakes as well. This recently predicted that the end of the world was in 2012. However, most people are skeptical of this prediction.

2012 signs of the Apocalypse truth or hype? Only time will tell.

2012 Signs of the Apocalypse?

Will 2012 be the end of Earth?

Will 2012 be the end of earth and, if so, how will it happen?

I recommend copying and pasting this link – it's a very informative blog on the subject.

Here is the link: http://b28a6867.seriousfiles.com

Will it be the end of earth?
I don't think it will be the end of "earth" but the end of earth as we know it. Physicists know there will be an increased amount of solar activity around Dec. 21 2012, possiblly even sooner then that, mid. 2011. Scrap the mayan calender, there is actual scientific evidence that the earth will be hit by massive amounts of solar particles even possible a solar flare.

This would disable all of our satelites and cause massive riots, causing a magnitude of fear, panic and catastrophe. There even could possible be a solar flare because scientists are assuming that
solar activity is increasing. Nasa is even reporting that there will be increased solar activity on that date.

Should you be worrying about it?

Of course but when you come to realization of the fact it is clearly evident that you and our species if such an event were to occur would probably not survive. Only a few elite, government officials, and a chosen minority would wait it out in underground military bases.

All evidence and government spending points towards some sort of major event happening towards 2012 and if you are not prepared for it you will bare the consequences.

Here is a link to a very informative blog about underground military bases:

I think that in 2012 the image of Iraq,Iran, Afghanistan, and U.S.A. will change because people will understand they can use constitutions of the world to protect their air space.
This means no more bombed Iraqis and war in hands of citizens with constitution programs on computers who send desist orders.
World will not end that way and the oil will just run out.
It is possible some foolish person will build an anti bomb and blow up the planet but i think constitution computer programs are better and author roger shattack would agree

People talked that the year 2000 will be the end of the civilization. Because of the Year 2K bug, all electronics would not work and causing all chaos.

BUT did it happen? Nothing happen…..

I'm just hoping it will be the end of so many people talking about it.

Will 2012 be the end of Earth?

2012 End of Days Asteroid…Russia trying to deflect asteroid….?

Ok…there have been lots of info and stories floating around out there about the world ending on 12/21/2012. I recently read a news article on Yahoo about Russia planning to try to deflect an asteroid from hitting Earth. NASA and other space agencies have been monitoring said asteroid for a while now and every time they look at where it may or may not hit, they discover that its path is heading further and further away from Earth. so here's my thought…What if NASA and everyone else is wrong and we don't help Russia and it hits Earth?…..But more interestingly….What if Russia launches whatever mission they come up with and instead changes the path of the asteroid to where it hits Earth?

Are we talking about 4179 Toutatis? It's been passing pretty close to Earth on and off for the last few years; in 2004 it got as close as 4 times the distance to the moon, in 2009, it was 2.3 times. It's due to pass by again in 2012, 2016 and 2020.

Probably nothing more to worry about in coming years as in the past (It's been known about since 1934).

Relax. If it was a big asteroid, there is nothing anybody could possibly do which would deflect it.

So there would be absolutely no point in worrying would there?

Watch the 2 and a half hour movie and see what is really going on.

things that make you go hhhhmmm!!!! you need to think of things you can control not what you can't

the odds against it are big,so i think for now were safe, but that's how it begins.
meteor shower.

Throughout history, some people have claimed to know exactly when the world was coming to an end — and in every case they were wrong. there is no reason to believe it will be different with this prediction (if in fact it even is one — which many scholars doubt).

Only God knows the future, and the most comforting truth I can tell you is that the future is in His hands — and His hands alone. Yes, some day the world as we know it will come to an end — but not one second before God causes it to happen. in that day, Christ will return to earth to overcome all evil and establish His kingdom of perfect peace and justice.

When will that be? Jesus warned us not to make guesses or firm predictions, because "no one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father" (Matthew 24:36). At the same time, the Bible does tell us that certain things must take place before Christ returns — and many of those are happening today.

The most important question, however, is this: are you ready for the day when you must stand before God — either because of death or because of Christ's return? Don't dodge that crucial issue, but make sure of your salvation by trusting Christ and giving your life to him today.

2012 Prophecies – Holy Asteroid, Batman!

The 2012 prophecies are upon us…why should you care? Well, if you haven’t heard, we’re all about to sizzle in the fumes of a solar flare. Or maybe it will be the volcanic eruptions. Or maybe we’ll just get fried by an asteroid.

Yes, on December 21, 2012 at exactly 11:11am Universal Time, the Winter Solstice will take place. this solstice will mark the end of the 5125 year Ancient Maya Long Count Calendar’s great Cycle. okay, stay with me here, because it’s also considered the completion of the Precession of the Equinoxes Cycle, happening only once every 26,000 years. some experts say it is also will mark the end of a 104,000 year cycle.

That’s a lot of cycles, right? I’m also predicting the end of the life of my motorcycle, although that’s another story. how bizarre is this? All ending in 2012?

Think of all these 2012 prophecies. Nostradamus was the one who predicted that a large asteroid will hit the earth. Even NASA is concerned about super solar flares causing weather anomalies and catastrophic events.

Since ancient times, this date has been both anticipated and feared. The 2012 prophecies conjured up by the Mayans show that the Earth, the Sun, and edge of the Milky way will be coming into perfect alignment. they call this the Galactic Alignment and it only takes place once every 26,000 years. this alignment is supposed to cause a magnetic pole reversal which will wreak havoc on our earth. Tsunamis, volcanoes, and major earthquakes could be the end result. I don’t know about you, but I’m buying a helmet!

And last, but not least, the 2012 prophecies predict that a brown dwarf star, commonly called Planet X or Nibiru, is going to collide with Earth. say goodbye to civilization as we know it, my friends. You better start stocking up on some goodies now. Canned beans, bottled water, and lots of Snickers bars. But don’t forget, until that fateful day approaches, have as much fun as you can!

Greg Robertson has spent years studying the predictions and potential catastrophies associated with the year 2012. taking both a serious and sometimes light-hearted view of the pending doomsday, you can learn more by going to [http://www.2012-prophecies.com].
